I am not yet endorsing nor has the blog endorsed Shak Hill (or anyone else) for the US Senate.  But I wanted to know more about the underdog candidate without the millions or the Rolodex, taking on former GOP National Chairman Ed Gillespie:  Shak Hill

I spoke with Shak last Sunday and he is very knowledgeable and quietly fervent.

Shak’s reason for running:  He is concerned about the future for the children of America.  Hill wants federal power limited to the seventeen enumerated powers and the clause to enforce the enumerated powers.  If not found there, he’s against.  He is concerned about three issues:  Economy, Education and Energy.  Hill calls it the “3E’s”

Economy:  We need to repeal Obamacare and also useless regulations.  Seeks what he called an affordable, portable health insurance system divorced from an employer and a free market alternative.  (I agree!)

Education:  Hill cited the program in New Orleans that has what he called a “coupon system” that he describes now as one of the best programs and school systems in the nation.  (By the way, that is Governor Jindal’s program)  Let’s empower parents in the system.  Against Common Core.  (Pretty much agree!)

Energy:  For nuclear energy and seek out domestic sources of energy.  For the Keystone pipeline.  Hill considers energy a state issue not a federal one.  (I agree, too!)

On sovereignty, the TPP, UN treaties etc.  Hill is against all those treaties such as the Child Treaty and the Disabilities one, too.  He would like the US to get out of the UN altogether and the UN find a different headquarters – maybe Geneva is okay.  Shak is also concerned about treaties because a treaty is part of as he put it “the Constitution”, Hill meant that the Constitution makes it the supreme law of the land (Hill is not an attorney by the way and said only 51 senators can pass a treaty; it is 2/3rds or 67)  Hill is also against both NSA spying and NDAA indefinite detention.  He is for free trade but not the TPP.  (Enthusiastically agree!)

Shak Hill did speak to his family, his wife’s fight against cancer, and how they were foster parents for 46 children, and briefly discussed his partial term on the city council in West Melbourne, FL.  Hill was elected to stop what he saw as a board wedded to developers and sought less government and less taxes.  Shak and his wife Robin homeschool their six children.  He was in the Air Force and served in Desert Shield/Storm.  He’s the only veteran in the race.  (Good personal story)

He also has a great story:  Great-grandfather was from Syria in search of the American dream.  He found it:  founded a successful business.  (More good story)

Why help Hill?  It is either a senator that represents you or one who represents his Rolodex.

How do I help Shak Hill?  Go to his website:  Can reach the campaign at either [email protected] or to schedule an event [email protected]

I was generally pleased with Shak and I admire his efforts.  It would be nice not to have a coronation and with a latest poll showing the incumbent with a 29% lead (although I think it is heavily skewed toward Democrats), maybe it’s time for a different approach.

eExcellent interview summary. I’m already on board with Shak HilI and feel the wind currents Of others as well. Warner has voted close to a hundred percent with Obama’s bad policies that are not working , he is not good for Virginia and we need him out!

  2. Steven Brodie Tucker says:

I have not seen much “conservativism” or “constitutionalism” in Gillespie. I’m certainly interested in learning more about Mr. Hill.

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
