Napolitano and TSA Begin Censoring Employee Web Access from ‘Controversial Opinion’

The Transportation Security Administration has begun limiting employee access to the internet. While this is not a new or particularly evil approach to controlling what employees do on the internet (paid for by the employer), one aspect of this new practice is disturbing.

The email was sent to all TSA employees from the Office of Information Technology on Friday afternoon.

It states that as of July 1, TSA employees will no longer be allowed to access five categories of websites that have been deemed “inappropriate for government access.”

The item that is raising eyebrows is the blocking of websites that contain “controversial opinion”.

From CBS News:

The email was sent to all TSA employees from the Office of Information Technology on Friday afternoon.

The categories include:

• Chat/Messaging

• Controversial opinion

• Criminal activity

• Extreme violence (including cartoon violence) and gruesome content

• Gaming

The email does not specify how the TSA will determine if a website expresses a “controversial opinion.”

There is also no explanation as to why controversial opinions are being blocked, although the email stated that some of the restricted websites violate the Employee Responsibilities and Conduct policy.

Notably absent from the list is porn, probably the most blocked category in the business world today. It is laughable, but not unexpected from the Obama Administration that Rush Limbaugh could be blocked, yet porn allow to be freely accessed.

Even more disturbing is the fact that pro Global Warming websites would no doubt be allowed while those casting a wary eye on the matter would be blocked.

Sound business policy or left wing government censorship?

What do you think?

Heck, I don’t want them surfing anywhere for personal reasons on my dime. Then again, lets get rid of the TSA and let the airlines run the security. Then, who cares where they surf…..
