A stunning announcement from across the pond:
Dear Elwood “Sandy”,
[Blogger’s note: Isn’t it great to get a personal email from my hero? Of course it’s sent to nine million others, too!]
Statement from Nigel Farage
I have decided to stand aside as Leader of UKIP. The victory for the ‘Leave’ side in the referendum means that my political ambition has been achieved. I came into this struggle from business because I wanted us to be a self-governing nation, not to become a career politician.
UKIP is in a good position and will continue, with my full support to attract a significant vote. Whilst we will now leave the European Union the terms of our withdrawal are unclear. If there is too much backsliding by the Government and with the Labour Party detached from many of its voters then UKIP’s best days may be yet to come.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you the membership for your extraordinary support and generosity over the many years, I could not have done it without you.
Yours as ever,
Farage set an example – no career in politics. It is rare that a political lay person comes off the sidelines and has a bold vision and then gets people to carry it out. And that he is not corrupted by power or fame.
Farage’s goal was – get the UK out of the EU. As late at 10 pm GMT last June 23, he thought he’d not quite make it. But, the UK voted to LEAVE the EU. I think we’ll celebrate June 23 every year from now on in the Sanders’ house.
And Farage’s vision of a Europe of sovereign states that trade and work together without become part of a federal EU superstate is spreading – liberty is infectious – it is part how God created man (“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” is in the Bible for real! II Corinthians 3:17 in fact [KJV]) and when men live under God’s law they can be free. Free to be holy and live a happy life.
May liberty spread back to the USA! Thank you Nigel Farage for your vision and tenacity to carry it out. The world is a better place for it.
PS: Douglas Carswell UKIP MP would make a great leader of UKIP and he already has the manifesto to win a General Election right here! (But it looks like he will not do so and might leave UKIP altogether)
AND How about that interview for the VR blog? If you come to VA we’ll find a pub and I introduce you to the South’s leading beverage: Sweet Tea!
