NO MORE BIG IDEAS? NOT HARDLY…

Thanks to Pajamas Media for this article on no more big ideas in science but the two big ideas are more items of faith than items of science:

1.  Alternative universes

2.  That we will be able to live forever by in effect turning into a computer.

With all due respect to Dr. Tipler, it is doubtful we’ll have any observational evidence of alternative universes therefore it will be unprovable by science (see this Scientific American article although you will have to buy it to read it unless you go to [Gasp! Imagine it!] the library!) and the download into a computer and live forever seems metaphysical to me.

In contrast, consider the claims of Christianity (and I do not know Dr. Tipler’s faith so I am not criticizing it in way way) as expressed in two critical verses:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16 (KJV)

AND

“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;  And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.  Revelation 7:9-10 (KJV)

Thanks to Bible Gateway for the verses!

These are the big ideas I look forward to – eternal life through Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior (If you want to know more about how to find life in Christ, go here!) and that there will be followers of Christ from EVERY people group, language and maybe even family (“kindreds”)!  How wonderful is that?  True diversity without a quota system.  Rather Jesus commanded His people to go and as they go take the Gospel to every people group.

Faith in Jesus sure beats turning into a computer which is certainly not possible today and likely never will happen or believing in unprovable alternative universes.
