Looks like Tom Perriello, Democrate incumbent, is going to try to use President Obama to help close the gap in the VA 5th CD race. Robert Hurt, the Republican Candidate, is has been leading in the polls for some time though the lead has narrowed in recent weeks. Perriello’s Campaign announced today that President Obama will be in Charlottesville on Friday for a campaign rally.
The question will be, how much will this help Perriello? Guess we will know answer 4 days later on Nov 2. The 5th district was a district that Obama lost in 2008 and Perriello won only by 727 votes, to unseat Rep. Virgil Goode.
As Larry Sabato tweeted earlier, this won’t exactly “hurt” Obama, if Perriello does not win. This is more of a “thank you” because Perriello voted in line with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda. However, that is not to say the VA’s 5th district has been written off by the Democrats.
Politico stated this:
The visit comes as six Democratic-aligned outside groups are pouring money onto the airwaves in support of Perriello. Organizations including the Service Employees International Union, the Sierra Club and the National Education Association are spending more than $1.5 million on TV ads…
It is also interesting to note that the VA 2nd CD race is in a dead heat. Incumbent Democrat Glen Nye, who DID NOT vote for the health care over haul, will not be receiving a visit from Obama, at least, none has been announced as of yet.
