A good solid article in Golf Digest on Olympic golf in 2016.  And it’s coming:

And some even want to see a throwback to the Avery Brundage era and limit the competition to amateurs. Sorry, folks, but today’s Olympic Games–in almost all sports–showcase the best athletes competing in the most popular formats. So, for golf, that’s professional golfers, competing at stroke play.

Who said?  Of course the precedent is set.  But anyway you say it – it’s sports imperialism.  Only the major powers have the facilities and the pro athletes to realistically win.  Where’s the outrage.  It is surely all run by television and ratings (“…most popular formats…”) as the disastrous removal of wrestling as an Olympic sport shows.   Count me out.
