The scientific world is all agog about the impending discovery of the so-called “god particle”, the Higgs boson. a particle that holds all the other particles together in the universe and gives the other particles mass or weight:
According to the Standard Model, the Higgs boson is the manifestation of the so-called Higgs field, an invisible energy field filling all space.
The Higgs gives mass to other subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons, quarks and leptons.
University of Melbourne particle physicist Geoff Taylor said it did this in a manner similar to the way water slowed down swimmers. “Subatomic particles feel the effect of the field like bodies moving through water. They gain mass, inertia,” he said. The more a particle “feels” the field, the heaver it becomes.
Higgs Holds It All Together?
The Higgs boson is one of the final puzzle pieces required for a complete understanding of the standard model of physics—the so-far successful theory that explains how fundamental particles interact with the elementary forces of nature.
Higgs’s idea was that the universe is bathed in an invisible field similar to a magnetic field. Every particle feels this field—now known as the Higgs field—but to varying degrees.
If a particle can move through this field with little or no interaction, there will be no drag, and that particle will have little or no mass. Alternatively, if a particle interacts significantly with the Higgs field, it will have a higher mass.
This is great news for science. I applaud the scientists in their discovery. This sounds like the Bible:
“For by him [Jesus] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisble, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV)
This discovery shows this universe is a unique and special place – dare I say it: intelligent design:
According to the standard model, if the Higgs field didn’t exist, the universe would be a very different place, said SLAC’s Peskin, who isn’t involved in the LHC experiments.
“It would be very difficult to form atoms,” Peskin said. “So our orderly world, where matter is made of atoms, and electrons form chemical bonds—we wouldn’t have that if we did not have the Higgs field.”
In other words: no galaxies, no stars, no planets, no life on Earth.
The scientists believe this discovery will help them answer “eternal” questions:
Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku has said the discovery could begin to explain eternal questions sometimes called the mind of God: “To me, when we finally dicsover the ‘God particle’, this is just the beginning. This can open the floodgates for a whole new branch of theoretical physics.
“There are eternal questions that cannot be answered in the framework of conventional physics. Is time travel possible, are there gateways to other universes . . . are there parallel universes?”
I respect the scientists trying to find out truth. But the eternal questions relevant to all of us are: Does life have meaning? Is there something greater than I? Why is there disease and hardship? What happens when I die? Only that sort of truth will satisfy. Perhaps the “god particle” will lead people to ask: Is there a God and what is truth? Jesus answers these questions:
“Jesus said unto him [Thomas], I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh to the Father except by me.” John 14:6 (KJV)
Jesus also said: “I am come that they might have life, and that they night have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 (KJV)
I exhort my readers who are looking for eternal answers to taste and see that the Lord is good (see Psalm 34:8); for those who want to find the real God Particle, go here and come to Jesus, repent of sin, ask God’s forgiveness, and resolve to live a holy life under His power! It will satisfy! Take my word for it! I can say that I have known Jesus for a long time and he is faithful to provide our needs and so much more. Thanks for reading.
