President Obama Announces His Surrender to the Taliban

President Obama announced to the enemy last night that they have won. He is pulling out troops and all the Taliban need do is wait a while longer to take over Afghanistan. We are walking away with our mission accomplished – thanks to the fact that we never defined our mission.

I urged Obama to pull out of Afghanistan, Iraq and the other wars he has started early in his presidency. This president has absolutely no clue when it comes to military affairs, and worse, he fails to listen to the people that do know what they are doing.

Former President Bush used a troop surge in Iraq, against the advice of Democrats like Obama who are clueless, to turn the tide in that war and hand over a nearly done deal to the next president.

After months of “careful” consideration interrupted by numerous rounds of golf, vacations and international apology tours, Obama decided to use the same tactic in Afghanistan that had succeeded for Bush. Only he allowed his political opinions to dictate military policy and cut back on the number of troops his military advisers requested and shorten the duration of the mission to appease the anti-war left, who he depends on for campaign money and votes.

That is an ignorant and shameful way to make decisions. And the result of the watered down mission with watered down troop numbers and a watered down timetable were worse than watered down. They actually moved in reverse.

Obama’s balancing act between what the military advisers advised and appeasing his liberal anti-war constituency – and one must assume Ron Paul as well – was a disaster.

The death rate of American soldiers was the only result of the Obama surge. According to CNS News:

The average monthly casualty rate for U.S. military forces serving in Afghanistan has increased 5-fold since President Barack Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009.

1,540 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since Oct. 7, 2001, when U.S. forces began fighting in that country to oust the Taliban regime that had been harboring al Qaeda and to track down and capture or kill al Qaeda terrorists.

During the Bush presidency, which ended on Jan. 20, 2009 with the inauguration of President Obama, U.S. troops were present in Afghanistan for 87.4 months and suffered 570 casualties—a rate of 6.5 deaths per month.

During the Obama presidency, through today, U.S. troops have been present in Afghanistan for 29.1 months and have suffered 970 casualties—a rate of 33.3 deaths per month.

A five-fold increase in the number of casualties, although you wouldn’t know it by the mainstream media reports who stopped counting war dead as soon as Obama started his watch.

This is a president who has failed miserably on every front. And the common thread in the decision making process has been Obama’s insistence that what is right must be balanced with what is politically correct in order to appease the greatest number of people.

In the end, he will be judged not by his ability to appease and bow to political pressure, but by the results he achieved. When you make a decision based heavily on appeasing the numerous constituencies within his voter base (and more importantly – his donor base) you may get a small measure of approval from these people, but in the end, the results speak for themselves.

And the timing on the troop withdrawal really smacks of appeasement politics with the bulk of the troops returning making it home just before the 2012 election. It is painfully obvious that this is a political decision, not a military one.

And there is no doubt that the timing of the returning troops impact on unemployment was also calculated into the decision. Most of these men and women will probably be discharged and hit the job market – and the ranks of the unemployed – just after November, 2012.

And Afghanistan will ponce again become a Terrorist Training Haven and American soldiers will have died for Obama’s political gain. And that is a shame.

Unfortunately, your numbers are a little off. Is it true that more soldiers have died each year during Obama's tenure than the last 4 years of President Bush's? Yes… but that is the extent of it. The rising casualty rate is an unfortunate trend that started in 2004, NOT when Obama took office in 2009. Violence in Afghanistan has been increasing requiring an increase in troops. Common sense tells us that when there are more troops, there will probably be more deaths. The more appropriate way to look at the ratio of deaths would be per 1,000 troops… even then, it is an incorrect assessment due to the fact that it fails to incorperate a rise in violence. I understand your point, and agree with much of it but unfortunately finger pointing does not solve any of our problems.
