REMOVE the BIBLE from the TRINITY COLLEGE (DUBLIN, IRELAND) LOGO? GO ALL THE WAY: CHANGE your NAME, TO SECULAR COLLEGE DUBLIN!

When I saw this in an email consisting of articles on or from Ireland (Got to keep up with the ol’ sod as my great grandmother Flanagan would say), I could not believe it, so I had to confirm it elsewhere:

Bible banned from world famous Trinity College crest

So I found it here at the Irish Times:
Under a controversial €100,000 branding initiative, agreed at board level this week, Trinity is removing the Bible from the crest and replacing it with “an open book” in what it describes as a “deliberate and symbolic” change.
Yes, I’d say it’s deliberate and symbolic.  Here’s their scholarly analysis of the removal of the Holy Scriptures from the crest:

However, in a memo accepted by the board, the college recommended that the Bible, closed with clasps – an image that harks back to the college’s founding in 1592 as the College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth – be replaced by an open book, “to signify our tradition of scholarship which should be accessible to all”.

The aim was to create a more “forward-facing” image, along with the institution’s planned new brand name, Trinity College, the University of Dublin, which is to be used instead of TCD in all areas except academic publications.

I would agree again:  The learned board of Trinity College certainly did not want the pesky, old fashioned, irrelevant Bible on their crest!  That is not a “forward-facing” image!  They forgot (deliberately perhaps?) that Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and that the world was created by God in wisdom!  (See Proverbs 1:7 and 3:19)

This is probably more likely a nod to political correctness.  If they maintain the Scriptures on their crest, that means it stands for something – a special value for their organization and a special reason for the university’s existence.  Or maybe that the authority of the Holy Bible is paramount and they may not want to be subject to that authority anymore.  The Trinity board may be revealing more than they realized.  They may feel they do not need the wisdom and knowledge of God.  It is not my place to judge the hearts of the board members but we know what happens when people decide not to keep a knowledge of God in their memory:  They fall into terrible sin caused by a depraved mind  See Romans 1: 28-31.

So I suggest the Trinity board go all the way:  Call yourselves a secular university.  Drop the word Trinity.  For you can’t have it both ways, or as the Bible says, you can’t serve two masters – either you will love one and hate the other or cling to the other and hate the one.  See Matthew 6:24.

I warn the church:  Perilous days are coming soon.  Paul said we were in the end times 2000 years ago.  Better be ready.  For those who want to know more about what it is to be a follower of Christ, go here for that info!  Anyone who receives Christ for here on will look like (to closely paraphrase Whittaker Chambers born 113 years ago Tuesday) they are leaving the winning world for the losing one.  But Jesus is coming again!

  1. Henry Francis says:

It seems the bishop of Buckingham Rt Rev Dr Alan Wilson has chucked the Bible out with the trash from his church.

He is calling for homosexual weddings to be conducted on an equal basis with heterosexual ones. Plus he wants gay clergy to be the first to walk up his aisle.

“Church” of England now there’s a sad joke!

Many seem to be ready to renounce the Bible when it does not suit them. I need to make sure I am right with God as He is no respecter of persons. Let’s hope some lost people will find Jesus through my blog posts.

      Thanks, Henry, for coming by.
