Michael Gage is the Republican Candidate for the 74th District House of Delegates seat that plans to retire Democrat Joe Morrissey. After attending a Town Hall meeting last month, it was clear that Michael Gage has a deep understanding of the issues and problems in the 74th District and has the knowledge and skills to address those problems legislatively. If you have not yet read the summary of the Town Hall meeting, you may read it here.
This past Sunday afternoon, Michael and Karen Gage opened their home for a gathering of friends, neighbors and supporters. My mouth had been watering for days as Michael taunted his Facebook friends with the preparation details of the feast. He treated guests to smoked beef, chicken, ribs, sausage as well as Hot Dogs and Hamburgers. The weather was perfect for an evening in the shade of the trees in the yard. Michael did a lot of work, and at the risk of sounding like Chef Gordon Ramsay, it was “spot on”. And the only “F” word involved was food. And lots of it.
While Michael’s wife (and top supporter), the hard working Karen Gage, kept the culinary wonders in order, Michael circulated among the crowd and listened and talked to his guests. There seemed to be as many Democrats as Republicans and it was an interesting and very friendly gathering. Michael Gage has an uncanny ability transcend party politics and deal just with the issues.
And he’s always thinking. He is looking at ways the New Kent farmers can sell soy products to Hopewell Bio-Diesel facilities, which provides income, jobs, clean fuel and keeps it all in the 74th district. This is an innovative man with a keen head for business. His opponent, Joe Morrissey, a lawyer, seems to have a keen head for dealing with issues outside of the district and trying to decriminalize crime. It’s been a while since the 74th District has had a Delegate that will work for them!
It was a wonderful afternoon of food and conversation. And nobody needed any Rolaids!
