Republicans Missed a Golden Opportunity to gain Approval of Keystone Pipeline

John Boehner is one of the biggest problems was face as a nation, just after Barack Obama.

The new war that Obama has managed to get us into by his ill advised pullout in Iraq has resulted in exactly the scenario that George W. Bush and many others warned about.

And now this president is executing a war completely on p

olitical terms. His interest is not in doing the right thing for the nation. His interest is not even in doing the right thing for humanity. But Obama reluctantly was forced to go back in and clean up his own mess this time. Even Obama is not so stupid to believe that leaving the area the way he did wouldn’t cause issues down the road.

But  I don’t doubt that Obama was only too happy to leave a mess for his predecessor to clean up in order to make his presidency look better.

Obama’s problem is that the Democrat running in close elections – which seems to be just about all of them – are hearing from the folks at home that they want this ISIS threat gone. And the other half of Obama’s base is saying ‘don’t you dare get us into another war.’

So what does the “Commander in Chief” do? He tosses a few bombs at the problem and hopes it will go away.

Now John Boehner and the Republicans simply caved in and appropriated the money Obama asked for without so much as a “please” escaping Obama’s lips.

What an opportunity lost.

Every time we start bombing in the Middle East the price of oil goes up. Most of the nation has enjoyed a slow decline in prices at the pump the last few weeks. But look for that trend to reverse as real and pretend disruptions in the supply chain arise due to the war. In addition, ISIS is dumping oil on the black market at a considerable discount which, in the quantities they are selling also tends to effect the price of oil in the “legitimate” market. And even though the cheap oil sales on the black market help us fill our cars, one objective in the war must be to cut off the flow of oil ISIS is using to fund their terror.

So the result will be higher prices at the pump.

One way to counter that increase and actually ensure our supply of oil would be to tie the approval of the Keystone pipeline in the appropriations that were in the Continuing Resolution that was just recently passed.

But the Republican’s have no real leaders with the ability to think.

Approving the Keystone pipeline to help offset the wartime price increase for gasoline would be an easy sell.

Instead, thanks to Boehner, the American economy is about to suffer another setback because of oil prices.

Way to go, GOP.

Tom, there is no end to the insanity. Just look at this picture of foreign policy. So, Sunni Islamic Fascists join with a tiny group of disorganized Syrian rebels to fight the tyrannical non-sunni dictator. These “freedom fighters” kidnap journalists and sell them to ISIS. Meanwhile, John McCain and Barack Obama want to join ISIS against Assad. The American People freak out.

    Silence.

Then, the journalists kidnapped by freedom fighters and sold to ISIS start getting beheaded. Christians start getting crucified and babies beheaded. Iraq starts coming apart. Obama dithers. Then, Obama and McCain, again, decide to arm the freedom fighters, who will just sell those guns to ISIS which has a more powerful economic presence in the region. These freedom fighters wouldn’t be fighting ISIS anyway. THEY ARE FIGHTING ASSAD!

We drop some bombs. ISIS starts to migrate into more populated areas, knowing we won’t destroy whole cities, essentially telling Obama, “go ahead, bomb sand”.

This is a colossal waste of money and munition. We’re not getting anywhere. But, oh yeah, the real danger is this mysterious “global warming”, which hasn’t happened, the earth is cooling, but which threatens the very future of the human race.

Dumbest, most superstitious, last effective President ever.

It is indeed evidence of what happens when you turn the most influential and powerful nation over to the hands of the types now in control. The lack of vision lends cynics like myself to ponder over Eisenhower’s dire warnings about a military/industrial complex. An endless series of wars and conflicts is good for whom ? Certainly not those directly impacted by the conflict, but indeed for those who’s very business is the perpetuation of war itself. Virginia alone is a direct beneficiary of this machine.

Incentives to promote more domestic energy production, lessening our dependence on oil from areas of the world that we know are troubled, coupled with a halt to all foreign aid, military and otherwise with the insistence of peace before another dime flows to either side, an announcement of a new U.S. foreign policy declaring any attack on U.S soil, or against U.S interests will be met with a response rendering the host nation an uninhabitable parking lot for the next 1,000 years–and then having the political will and courage that Truman did.

Otherwise get ready for decades of ongoing armed conflict, scores of dead Americans lost in futile efforts to stop what is nothing more than centuries old tribal/religious conflicts, and worse yet increased domestic terrorism on European and American soil.

Tom is right, the republicans are just terrible poker players when it comes to advancing conservative free market principles in both domestic and sadly foreign policy . Or pawns in the military/industrial complex Ike warned us about. Take your pick.
