RESEARCHERS at the ANNUAL MEETING of the American Association for the Advancement of Science say: Give WHALES and DOLPHINS RIGHTS! BUT the AAAS says not HUMAN EMBRYOS!

This was a fascinating article about a position several researchers offered to the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  Several researchers suggest that cetaceans (That’s right:  dolphins and whales!) have legal rights! Read for yourself!

Discussing their “declaration of rights” for cetaceans at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in Vancouver, an international team of researchers said the animals should have the same rights to life, liberty and wellbeing as humans.

Dr Thomas White, an ethics expert at Loyola Marymount University in California, said: “The similarities between cetaceans and humans are such that they, as we, have an individual sense of self.

“Dolphins are non human persons. A person needs to be an individual. If individuals count, then the deliberate killing of individuals of this sort is ethically the equivalent of deliberately killing a human being.

Really?  Should the willful killing of a dolphin be a capital crime?  Virginia has certainly executed (in spite of the braying of European and other do-gooders) enough willful murderers in the past 30 years or so. There’s more!

A group of researchers established the Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans at a conference in Helsinki two years ago, and is now canvassing support from scientists in the hope of bringing it to the attention of policymakers.

The ten-point document says each individual cetacean has the right to life, to a free existence in their natural habitat and to the protection of their environment.

It adds that no person or organisation has the right to own a cetacean, or to disrupt their culture.

Cetaceans are entitled to have these rights set down in an internationally recognised legal document, it concludes.

Sea World, call your legal counsel!  The Endangered Species Act will have to be law in every nation!  (We already place animals over people now in the United States!)  Agenda 21 will surely be amended.  But I wondered:  What is the AAAS position on abortion?  They do not have one but they CERTAINLY DO on EMBRYONIC stem cell research.  When President Obama did away with the humane Bush doctrine on whether taxpayers get to fund embryonic stem cell research he was greeted with cheers from those in white coats:

“I thank you for your executive order on federal support for human embryonic stem cell research, and applaud your decision to issue presidential guidance on scientific integrity,” AAAS CEO Alan I. Leshner, executive publisher of Science, wrote in a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama. It was the association’s first letter to Obama since his 20 January 2009 inauguration as president of the United States.

So, the AAAS is asked to support rights for dolphins but not HUMAN embryos? And people think Rick Santorum is extreme for standing for life?

This is what happens when you reject a Biblical world view.  Of course animals should be respected and not mistreated.  But there is a clear difference in kind between animals and humans:

“And God made the beast of the earth…and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.  *  *  *  And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  *  *  *  And God saw every thing he had made, and behold, it was very good.”  Genesis 1:25, 27, 31 (KJV)(emphasis added)

And this classic verse:

“…in the sight of God our Saviour, Who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”  I Timothy 1: 2:3-4 (KJV)

God created the animals for one purpose and man and woman for another.  When anyone takes the position that dolphins and whales should have legal rights as persons but human embryos do not, they have perhaps fulfilled this Scripture verse:

“Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.  Amen.”  Romans 1:25 (KJV)

When you reject the Bible, you have to come up with your own morality.  But the problem is:  How do you know you are right?  For all those non-dolphins and whales who read this blog, I say:  Don’t reject the Biblical world view!  You know what’s next – how to get saved!  HERE!
