The Israel issue has come up again.

The Republican Jewish Coalition decided to exclude Ron Paul from its GOP Presidential debate.  They cited extreme positions:

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said Paul was not invited because the organization rejects his views. “He’s just so far outside of the mainstream of the Republican party and this organization,” he toldWashington Jewish Week, adding that inviting him would be like inviting President Barack Obama.

Ron Paul like President Obama?  WOW!  Talk about extreme positions?  Besides, let’s assume this is about aid to Israel.  RP said in a recent debate that he would not commit the US militarily to help Israel if attached by Iran or if they attacked Iran.  Paul argued that nuclear Israel can defend itself.  He’s right; Israel fought four wars successfully (1948, 1956, 1967 and 1974) and even acquired the entire Sinai, West Bank, Gaza strip and part of the Golan Heights.  (Most of it was given back.)

It might be better for Israel not to have aid.  I was impressed with this letter to the editor in the Conway (NH) Daily Sun:

What you may not know is that many prominent Israelis including Israeli economists Ran Dagoni, Yoel Bainerman, Alvin Rabushka, the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, as well as groups including the Jewish Task Force, the Zionist Freedom Alliance, and the Manhigut Yehudit faction of the Likud Party have long advocated for an end to U.S. foreign aid to Israel. These groups insist that Israel must develop her own economic strength and move towards more free-market economic reforms as a means of boosting national prosperity and strength.

What good is aid to Israel if there will be aid to Palestine?

Since the establishment of limited Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the
mid-1990s, the U.S. government has committed over $4 billion in bilateral assistance to the
Palestinians, who are among the world’s largest per capita recipients of international foreign aid.

Now I will defend the right of any group to exclude Ron Paul.  It will be a boring debate with all the candidates outbidding themselves on how to support Israel.  BUT, I hope this will lead others to look into RP’s positions and support him!

Maybe the slogan should be FREE ISRAEL!  VOTE RON PAUL!  (Thanks to an unknown post-er at Daily Paul!)  I did think this would be in interesting response:  A counter-demonstration!  Perhaps avoid distraction – stick to the Iowa and NH items!

Remember, the other hopefuls are arguing over the sweet tea tab at McDonalds’!
