SALT & LIGHT Council Update – JUNE 17th Date

Salt and Light/Truth Project Members,

Recall that we decided to move our June 10 meeting to June 17. As I indicated in my last message to you, you should try your best to attend these next two meetings (even if you’ve not been able to attend many of our previous sessions). On June 10, we’ll take up Lesson 9, “The State – Who’s Law?” We’ll also answer the question that most Christians today answer incorrectly, “Should politics be concerned with ethics and morality; and, if so, should the Church assert its Biblical morality in the public square?” – One other thing…

In light of the events of the past week, I suggest that you consider attending Mechanicsville Baptist Church’s Salt and Light meeting on Thursday, June 19 at 7 PM (Flyer copied below). Several of us who have unsuccessfully tried to convince our own Churches to form an S&L Council have begun attending the S&L meetings at MBC. On Thursday, Ward Hildreth and Herb Chittum (who attend our Hanover Meetings and do a great job of leading the MBC S&L) have asked me to speak on the subject of Islam.

As I’ve thought through my presentation I’ll make at MBC, I’ve decided to apply the principle we learned in Lesson 6 of the Truth Project (“History – Who’s Story?”). Recall that the postmodern culture in which we live today rejects the metanarratives of history. Postmodernists do not believe we are playing out roles in a larger story – we’re merely reacting to the many mindless events that occur. It has become obvious that our Nation’s leaders have no grasp of the Islamic historical metanarrative or the threat it poses to Christianity and to the American Experience. If you’re interested and can attend MBC’s meeting, I’ll try to make what’s happening (within the historical context of the religion of Islam) as clear as I can (in an hour).

Otherwise, I hope to see you on June 17 at our regular meeting place in the Hanover AirPark.
