Senator McDougle Announces Re-Election Campaign

unnamedJune 19, 2015, Mechanicsville, VA: Senator Ryan T. McDougle (R-Hanover) formally declared his candidacy for re-election to the Senate of Virginia today. Senator McDougle, who serves as Chairman of the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus, represents the Fourth District in the Senate of Virginia.

“It is an honor to serve the citizens of the Fourth District,” said Senator McDougle.¬† “From bringing Virginia’s budget into balance during challenging economic times to insisting state government live within its means, I have worked effectively to make the Commonwealth a model of fiscal restraint and responsible budgeting. I will continue that commitment in my next term, insisting that the citizens I represent in the Senate of Virginia have a voice devoted to creating more opportunities to ensure their future prosperity.

“During this current term, I have applied my conservative principles to achieve better results for Virginia. I have spearheaded the successful effort to bring long overdue reforms to Virginia’s antiquated ABC, to strengthen protections against sexual predators, and to implement changes to ensure all of our public schools are providing our children with a quality education. By emphasizing solutions and not sidestepping the big challenges, the legislation I have championed will bring greater accountability to government and improve the quality of life in Virginia.

“The atmosphere in Washington has resulted in many Americans believing that representative government is failing them. During the 2014 General Assembly session, when Senate Democrats and Governor McAuliffe brought Virginia’s government to the brink of a shutdown because they wanted to expand Obamacare, Richmond was starting to look a lot like Washington. But this year, with Republican Senators in the majority, I lead our caucus to the most successful and productive session in recent memory. We completed work on a balanced budget way ahead of schedule and even completed the session early. It is that record of leadership – and the stark contrast it presents with what happened under the Democrat majority – of which I am especially proud.

“I will continue to visit with community and business leaders across the Fourth District, to hear about their concerns and how we can improve our communities and the Commonwealth. I ask for your support and vote on November 3, so I can continue serving the people of our region.”

Senator Ryan T. McDougle has served in the Senate of Virginia since 2006. He represented the 97th District in the House of Delegates from 2002 through his election to the Senate. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules, Chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Public Safety, and is a member of the Committees on Courts of Justice, Finance, Rehabilitation and Social Services, and Transportation.

The Fourth District is comprised of Caroline, Essex, Middlesex, Lancaster, Northumberland, and Richmond Counties, and portions of Hanover, King George, Spotsylvania, and Westmoreland Counties.

McDougle supports voter registration by Party.

What that would mean is Democratic Voters who live in a County completely dominated by an All Republican Board of Supervisors and Constitutional Offices wouldn’t be allowed to vote in primaries.

Think about it. What if you had a corrupt Clerk of the Court that was picking conservative Republican Juries , or a Sheriff who wouldn’t arrest drug dealers, or a Commonwealth’s Attorney who wouldn’t prosecute them? How else could the citizens of a county purge the errant officer or supervisor except in a primary?

If you are a Republican or Independent voter living in Delegate Joe Morrisey’s district and you were appalled that your delegate was representing you in the Virginia General Assembly from his jail cell, the only way to get rid of him would have been to run a Democrat against him in a primary and have the republican and independent voters vote for the challenger in the primary.

Who would be the big losers in Hanover County if party registration passes in a McDougle run General Assembly? — the African American voters. They have the right to vote in primaries for the Republican challengers to constitutional officers if they don’t like the current regime. Many African American Voters who consider themselves Democrats voted in the Hanover County June 9th Republican Primary.
