SENATOR WARNER SUPPORTS the SECRET TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP! CALL/WRITE/EMAIL his OFFICE and DEMAND WARNER INSIST on FULL DISCLOSURE of its TERMS to CONGRESS!

Back to the Senator Warner watch:

The sovereignty-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership, the secret trade deal that is reported by liberals that will give foreign corporations the right to challenge US law in secret private courts, has the SUPPORT of our Senator Warner – yes MarknotJohn! That one!

Here’s the report from a textile makers association group, the AAFA (American Apparel & Footwear Association) commending Senator Warner (MarknotJohn) for his support of the outrageous TPP.  Here’s what AAFA says:

Representing nearly every region of the United States, I applaud Senator Warner and his colleagues in the Senate for their bipartisan leadership in ensuring the Trans-Pacific Partnership is a commercially-meaningful and robust agreement that promotes further growth for the U.S. apparel and footwear industry.

And here’s Warner’s response:

In releasing the letter, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) said, “Our bipartisan approach urges the Administration to continue in a productive dialogue with participating TPP countries about a modern approach for apparel trade that reflects today’s commercial realities.  This more flexible approach will allow immediate market access that can lead to increased jobs, trade and investment here in the United States.”

I guess the “more flexible approach” is a secret sellout of US sovereignty!

Lest anyone say, this was 2012, guess what – just days ago – December 3, 2013, this article was found with a letter to President Obama signed by Senator Warner!  Here’s a gem from the first paragraph:

“We support your goal of establishing a high-standard Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement that will foster new trade and investment and create a platform for economic integration across the Asia-Pacific region.”

If Senator Warner is going to write a letter to the President, he ought to ask him:  Show Congress and the American people the entire agreement!

Don’t take my word for it, take the word of this progressive outfit – the Campaign for American’s Future – who says this about TPP:

The TPP agreement is being negotiated — in secret, even from Congress — between representatives of governments and giant, multinational corporations. (Government negotiators are not prevented from seeking lucrative corporate jobs if negotiations are completed in favor of those corporations.) Groups representing the interests of labor, environmental, consumer, human rights or other stakeholders in democracy are not at the negotiating table. And, not surprisingly, it appears that the agreement will promote the interests of giant, multinational corporations over the interests of labor, environmental, consumer, human rights or other stakeholders in democracy.

Negotiated in secret, what we know about the treaty comes from leaks. Only a few of the “chapters” of the agreement are actually about “trade” at all. The rest are about the “rights” of corporations and investors. Negotiated just as the worldwide democracy uprising threatens to reign in corporate interests, the agreement will limit governments’ ability to write banking regulations, energy policy, food safety standards and even government purchasing decisions. It will allow corporations and investors to sue governments for lost profits if the governments try to make and enforce environmental, labor and other laws.

***

Interestingly, those parts of the Tea Party that are not fronts for corporate interests are also trying to spread the news about this treaty. Gotta give them credit, their radar is really catching this one.

Tea-Party concerns include the fact that the treaty would elevate a corporate-council above American sovereignty, and Fast-Track Trade Promotion Authority would strip Congress of its Constitutional role in shaping and approving the treaty.

See I told you they were progressive!  But they can be right once in a while!  Here’s a column in the conservative (NOT!) Huffington Post by Teamsters President James Hoffa (The end must be coming soon if I agree with Hoffa!):

The Teamsters, other unions and fair trade advocates have for years criticized a proposed Pacific Rim trade deal for its lack of transparency. Now trade officials with the 12 nations negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) are paying the price for not having an open process as they can’t seem to come to an agreement on the proposal.

A meeting in Singapore this week set up specifically to announce a final TPP agreement resulted in utter failure when participating nations announced they still need more time to hash out several critical issues. Despite efforts to keep the deal out of public view, leaks have occurred that have led to concern and more questions. People here in the U.S. and across the globe increasingly believe they have a right to know how the TPP will affect them.

And try this:

The negotiations, however, are covered in secrecy. Anyone not closely connected to the talks is being kept in the dark about the exact proposals being discussed. The Australian government, for instance, refused to give the Senate access to the secret text of the draft treaty being negotiated in a final round of talks in Singapore, the Sydney Morning Herald reported Monday. The results of the negotiations will only be made public after the treaty has been signed, the Australian government said, according to the paper.

It is outrageous for servants of the people to keep a major trade agreement secret until it is completed!  I call on Senator Warner to blow the whistle on this secret agreement and demand an open process!

Help the Senator out a bit.  Here’s his office phone – 1-877-676-2759 (it’s TOLL FREE for VA residents!)   Email him at this site.  Write his office at:

475 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Demand that the secrecy end!  Fight for US sovereignty!  Remember, you have a vote in November.  All the GOP candidates and the Libertarian if there is one, oppose this monstrosity!
