Server Migration In Progress – Virginia Right! May See Periods of Downtime

I have been notified by my Hosting Service – HostGator – that my server is being moved from Texas to Utah onto a brand new server. Which means that the server hardware will be different as will the IP address.

They tell me that there may be short periods of downtime while the site is migrated.

They are presently moving my data to the new server and once that is done, they will re-point the ip addresses and I will be notified if there is anything else I have to do – like change my DNS Servers.

So, pardon the interruptions that will come. The new server is a quad-core with double the memory of my old one. It also comes with a Raid-1 hard drive array which means that I will have two mirrored drives that will be used to serve data instead of the single one.

So my new dedicated server will be faster!

And I guess I am OK with Utah. At least it isn’t New York where Mayor Bloomberg would probably outlaw dual hard drives as fattening.

So after the migration, remember to read the posts we write with less of a drawl. They don’t do drawl in Utah.
