SHOULD BOISE STATE and maybe OLKAHOMA STATE SUE the BCS? CONTACT the major SPONSORS – let ’em know HOW YOU FEEL!

I know my readers from or associated with Virginia Tech and Alabama will not be happy with this posting.  I am not pleased to write this post.  I am especially displeased to even potentially write against my Alabama Crimson Tide!  I bleed Alabama when they lose.  I have relatives who attended VT.  But this is a subject I have spoken of before.  I am not alone:  Here’s already a Seattle Times article saying Boise got “jobbed” by the BCS.

But somebody needs to say it:  The Sugar Bowl is a royal hosing of Boise State.  Michigan has had a solid year at 10-2 except for a loss to the Spartans and Iowa (7-5).  Virginia Tech is also a solid year except for two huge blowout losses to Clemson at 10-2.  But tell me how you justify a BCS bowl for Virginia Tech?  Maybe Michigan.  Maybe even Kansas State (also 10-2) but Boise State only lost one game – to ranked TCU.  That was a close loss at that. And they play in a rinky dink bowl?  How fair is that?

It is obvious as the nose of my face that this BCS system favors the major powers.  It must be broken up.  Maybe a suit to force them to repick the Sugar Bowl is in order.  I do not practice this area of law but am sure the Idaho Attorney General’s office will exhaust every legal theory – probably anti-trust or restraint of trade or even civil RICO.  Here’s an incentive for the Idaho AG to act:  How would you like to be Governor of Idaho.  If you get the Broncos into the BCS, you should be a shoo-in for Governor!  But that’s not the reason for the suit:  It is to show the unfairness of the BCS system.

How do you justify a system where number 1 loses to 2 and only moves to 3?  That is what happened to Alabama.  Was it a box out of Boise from the title game?  Was someone else boxed out?  I am not questioning the integrity of the individuals making selections.  But something’s wrong.  It must be fixed.  If not, then there is an integrity issue.  Start with the Sugar Bowl.  Maybe even see if Oklahoma State has a case in re the BCS championship.  The Oklahoma AG might want to join into the Boise suit.

What can I do?  I’m not the attorney general of either Oklahoma or Idaho.  How about a polite protest:  The primary sponsors of the BCS bowls are:  Allstate (Sugar Bowl and BCS national championship game), Tostitos (Fiesta Bowl), Vizio(Rose Bowl), and Discover (Orange Bowl).  I have given my readers a site that you can go to for comments.  Let them know how you feel.  You do have choices in insurance, snack chips, credit cards and electronics.  They will see the light of they feel the heat.  You can also let the NCAA know how you feel, too!

Since Alabama and Virginia Tech are in the games, Roll Tide Roll and Go Hokies!  But I think the whole BCS system stinks and needs immediate reform.  Maybe a judge in Idaho will start the process rolling.

  1. JwI'll says:

Why don't you question the integrity of the people making the picks… The system is the product of corrupt people.

  2. Sandy Sanders says:

Jwl'll, I don't question integrity unless I have proof and I do not think I have enough proof yet. But I do believe the process is severely flawed and needs reform.
