I am sure some are driving down the road and see these signs up that the Mechanicsville Tea Party maintains (by the way, all on private property with the consent of the property owner!) and are wondering: Who is Gerry Baugh?
I remember how I read an article in the Mechanicsville Local where the budget was being discussed by the board of supervisors (the previous board) with others there like the superintendent of schools as well. It was one of those sessions where most present were congratulating each other on a job well done. Now I would say for the record, most of the decisions made in Hanover County are sound and conservative. But someone crashed the party! It was Gerry Baugh! He asked about salaries and bureaucracy; Baugh did his homework and impressed the reporter for the Local so much that it was the start of the above the fold article on the cover page of the Local! The headline was: MOST SUPPORT SCHOOL DISTRICT’S BUDGET GOALS. I said – I want to meet that Baugh fellow! I am sure hundreds if not thousands of readers cheered for Citizen Baugh.
Two or three weeks later, I attended my first Mechanicsville Tea Party meeting and was honored to meet Gerry Baugh. He was just about to become president of the MTP (A position he still holds, although there is to be an election to select the officers for the 2013 year.) and I told him how much I admired him for doing his homework and shaking up the party with hard questions. Baugh runs Baugh Auto Body, you have probably seen the ads on the Internet and TV. Thankfully I have not needed any body work on my car! But I would take my car to Baugh if it needed it!
I hope that there will be a place in politics or tea party involvement for Gerry Baugh. He is honest, upright, fervent and determined. Baugh has tried hard to build this tea party and the tea party has opened up local politics. Look at the new board. Wayne Hazzard, Canova Petersen, Sean Davis elected.
I want to encourage all my readers in eastern Hanover to get involved in the Mechanicsville Tea Party and if outside of eastern Hanover, wherever their local tea party is at. We need to keep the flame of liberty and limited government going and local politics is part of the answer. Even soil and water commissioners are elected and critical to a better county. Young adults need to take back their nation or we will lose it. Join your local tea party today!
We need some things like elected school boards still in Hanover. Nothing will happen unless you read up, go to the meetings, get involved, speak out and even maybe run for an office! Gerry Baugh does all those things. I wish he’d stay on as MTP president for at least one more year. Or run for supervisor in 2015! We need more patriot activists like Baugh in Hanover.
