STAFFERS from TWO campaigns defect to RON PAUL 2012! WELCOME to the RIGHT TEAM!

The Iowa campaign manager for MN Rep. Michele Bachmann, Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson, defected to the Ron Paul campaign.  Senator Sorenson was accused by the Bachmann campaign of being in effect bought off by the Paul forces.  But another staffer for Bachmann contradicted that claim before being in effect fired by the Bachmann campaign.   Here‘s the story and the comment from Wes Enos, former Iowa political director for the MN congresswoman:

Calling the allegation “ridiculous”, the Paul campaign also cited a statement by Wes Enos, Bachmann’s Iowa political director, also denying the bribery charge.

“I can say unequivocally that Kent Sorenson’s decision was, in no way financially motivated,” Enos said in his statement. “While I personally disagree with Kent’s decision, and plan to stay with Michele Bachmann because I truly believe in her, I cannot, in good conscience watch a good man like Kent Sorenson be attacked as a ‘sell-out.’”

The whole defection was so cloak and dagger it sounded like a spy movie with Sorenson refusing to speak citing “dental work” at a Bachmann campaign event in Indianola, Iowa.

“I’m numb, so I’m afraid I’ll start drooling,” Sorenson told the crowd, to laughs.

Bachmann’s campaign had allegedly been assured that the senator would stay with her (I wonderhow or if they got wind of his defection?) and then this happened:

Today, Bachmann told reporters that, “He told all of our campaign that he was definitely on board and then he got in his car and he went and announced that he was going with the Ron Paul campaign.”

But Enos said no way was Sorenson paid off.  This may be a state crime in Iowa:

Enos resigned after he had publicly defended Sorenson, an Iowa state senator, against charges that he had accepted money from the Paul campaign in violation of state law, NBC reported.

His reward for his honesty was he had to leave the Bachmann campaign.

In other more friendly news, we have several staffers for former NM Governor Gary Johnson who have also joined up with Paul:

Concord Patch reports that five former New Hampshire staffers of former Governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson announced Friday that they are now endorsing Ron Paul for president.

“Like many political observers, we see clear and compelling differences between Congressman Ron Paul and the other candidates who will garner significant support in New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary,” the five former staffers said in a statement.

We are glad to have support for these staffers and look forward to Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and others to join the Paul campaign as well…  🙂
