Statement Of Governor Bob McDonnell On Campaign Visit Of President Barack Obama

Posted at RPV website:

From Governor Bob McDonnell…

“I want to warmly welcome the President to Charlottesville and the 5th District this evening. As Virginians, we are always honored to have the President of the United States visit the Commonwealth. Elections matter, and the President’s visit should remind all the voters of the 5th District what is at stake on Tuesday, and the significant differences in the candidates for Congress.

The President is a good man, but his policies have not been good for the people of Virginia. Congressman Tom Perriello is also a good man, but his lock-step support of those policies has similarly not been positive for voters from Danville to Albemarle County.

When the President forced nationalized health care on the citizens of Virginia, Tom Perriello was right at his side. When the President attempted to pass a job-killing cap and trade scheme that would lead to skyrocketing energy prices and devastating job losses, Tom Perriello was right at his side. While the President oversaw the ballooning of our national debt to nearly $14 trillion, Tom Perriello was right at his side. So it is only fitting that at tonight’s campaign rally, Tom will be right by the President’s side yet again.

The President and Congressman Perriello both deeply believe in the political principles and policies that they advocate. Unfortunately, those policies are not good for the people of the 5th District, nor for the United States. And that is what Tuesday’s election is about.

The choice for the citizens is clear. Tom Perriello has voted for more taxation and regulation; more federal takeovers of the private sector; and more policies that increase spending and kill jobs. Robert Hurt knows that government doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

Robert knows that Washington D.C. doesn’t have all the answers, and that government closest to the people governs best. He knows that we don’t need more government programs, we need more private sector jobs. He will be a Congressman who represents the citizens of the 5th District, and a consistent vote for smaller government, less spending, and less taxation, litigation and regulation.

I welcome the President to Charlottesville. And I strongly encourage the voters of the 5th District to vote for Robert Hurt next Tuesday.”
