I have blogged before about Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, and their movie making skills. (BTW, they have a new movie out this fall: Courageous) I am thrilled that fellow believers are going into the world but not becoming a part of it. Many people will go to a movie for entertainment. Most movies have too much gratuitous sex, language and violence for my comfort. Here’s two articles about other movies of faith out there.
Now Sherwood is spreading the word about on Christian movie making and one early result is the Grace Card, produced by Calvary Church of the Nazarene (A proud disclaimer: That’s my denomination!) and a Memphis optometrist, Dr. David Evans. Here’s an article about a showing at Trevecca Nazarene University. I have not yet seen the movie but I plan to be there with bells on the weekend of the 25th (unless I am providentially hindered)!
The Grace Card is about a white police officer who has lost whatever faith he has and his family situation is precarious and his new partner is an African-American officer who is also a pastor. They are not even sure they will get along; the pastor wonders if he is called to pastor or be a peace officer. A terrible thing happens and both learn the value of forgiveness and grace. It is PG-13 due to “some violence and thematic elements”; so don’t worry about realism. It portrays the Christian faith in a crisis situation.
If you are a believer/follower of Christ, good stewardship is a necessity. Sometimes that means using our economic power to support good things. The Grace Card should be one of those opportunities.
