This is the biggest lie and you were very wrong not to verify what this asshole was saying. First there were no one thousand prisoner, there was only one. People didn’t talk in that manner back in the day “It’s all academic now…”. If Francis Scott Key had been yelling encouragement to the prisoner (which, as I have already pointed out, there was only one), the British would have thrown him overboard anyway.
The true story about the Star Spangled Banner is much better than this asshole version. It was a drinking song, and a British one at that.

MAJOR PROBLEM with this. Francis Scott Key wrote the words in 1814 during the War of 1812. The US was an independent nation for 38 years, NOT A BRITISH COLONY as the narrator states. Point of fact, Key was born in 1779 and never a British citizen. When such basic facts are in error, one has to wonder about the veracity of the rest of what is said.

I need a tissue when I hear such blatantly errant American History espoused as fact. It’s no wonder so many Americans are ignorant regarding our heritage.

    God bless America.

Who narrates this? It makes for a good story.

  4. Donna McKnelly says:

Just an FYI, this is a propaganda video full of lies and faux history.
There are multiple falsehoods about Francis Scott Key, Fort McHenry (which he called “Fort Henry”), the British attacking force (he said there were “hundreds of ships, the entire British Navy”. In reality, there were fifty and most of them were rafts carrying cannon) and about the War of 1812 in general. Fort McHenry was a working, military fort and NOT “full of women and children” and Key was actually negotiating for the release of just ONE prisoner, not a ship’s hold full of POWs.
Most egregious to me? George Washington did NOT say, “The thing that sets the American Christian apart from all other people in the world is that he’ll die on his feet before he’ll live on his knees.” The earliest this quote has been found is from The Spanish Civil War in the 1930s, circulated by anti-Franco counter Fascists.
I am a deep and committed historian and the use of historical revisionism for the purposes of overblown “patriotism” when the REAL history can be just as stirring disgusts me.

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
