Last year the Spokane Patriots tried to put on the local ballot an anti-ICLEI initiative and basically were laughed out of town:

Eric Steig, a University of Washington earth and space sciences professor who studies climate, said scientific claims made in the proposal are false or based on half-truths. He added that the overwhelming majority of climate scientists continue to say that the data points to human activity being a significant contributor to climate change.

“You wouldn’t want a group that believes smoking doesn’t cause cancer to hold sway over public policy on smoking,” he said.

But as the old Frank Sinatra song says, they aren’t laughing anymore!  First Carroll County MD voted out; then Amador County elected not to renew their membership in ICLEI, followed by Montgomery County (PA), and finally after protests, Edmond (OK) voted to immediately terminate their ICLEI membership!

But there is more news from Volusia County Florida – the Titusville Patriots published this letter asking Governor Scott to investigate the legality of ICLEI:

I respectfully request that you, as Governor of Florida, have Attorney General Pam Bondi review this issue in light of Article 1, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution: “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance or Confederation…” . As local governments are political subdivisions of the State, they are bound by the same prohibition.

Pursuant to this, a directive should be issued to all State Agencies and to all Florida local governments advising the immediate termination of any affiliation with ICLEI and to cease and desist in any initiative related to ICLEI and the above mentioned UN initiatives which the Congress of the United States have not adopted..

Good for them.  I know that Governor Scott has heard the tea party activists based on deep background I have heard from.  I’ll keep you informed.
