UPDATE: I contacted 9 News in Colorado to determine if they initially reported the gunman was an Iranian and received the following response:

UPDATE: A new report has come out naming James Holmes as the Colorado shooter. The initial report that the shooter was an Iranian names Mohammed Alam apparently is either an error by News 9, or a hoax.

Apparently, Channel 9 news in Colorado initially reported the name and nationality of the shooter who was arrested for the horrific Colorado shooting as Iranian born Mohammad Alam. The following entry was reportedly copied and pasted from the News 9 website earlier this morning.
NOTE: It is undetermined if this was a hoax or an erroneous report by News 9. THE SHOOTER IS NOT IRANIAN!
AURORA – There is one suspect in custody after 14 people were shot and killed at the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center.
There were at least 50 people injured to Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates.
Oates says 10 died at the theater and four died at the area hospital.
Nicole Williams, with Swedish Medical Center, says the hospital was allerted to a mass casualty incident at 1:15 a.m. Friday.
Williams says the hospital was told to prepare for at least 20 patients.
According to witnesses, the shooter kicked in the emergency exit door in theater 9, threw some sort of disorienting smoke bombs and started shooting.
The captured shooter has been identified as Mohammad Alam, an Iranian immigrant. The identity of the other shooter is still unknown, Oates states.

The name and nationality of of the shooter has since been removed from the Chanel 9 (Colorado) website and listening to a report on Richmond, Va radio station WRVA-1140 a short while ago, the shooter is being identified as a 24 year old white male.
Apparently, the name and nationality of the shooter has been removed from news reports with no indication as to the reason. Was News 9 erroneously reporting the identity of the individual or was the identity removed because the authorities are attempting to track down possible friends and associates of the alleged shooter and attempting to keep the identity hidden.
Or, for the conspiracy theorist readers, is the government trying to hide a connection to radical Islam?
The truth will eventually come out, but if the shooter is the Iranian identified initially by News 9, reporting that he is a 24 year old white male is at best misleading.
NOTE: The shooter IS a 24 year old white male identified by police as James Holmes.

I didn’t see the original YouTube video, since it’s been taken down by the uploader, but I’m curious about it. What did it contain exactly? Just a screengrab of a news story with his name in it, an audio soundbite, or a video clip?
i think fame is what motivated this act out of selfishness glory.it could be part of his sickness or it could be some thing or someone in his mind or reality that helped make him succeed in such an act.some people are just simply villains.some seek a worthy opponent ,some just seek violence as a comfort.
well if there are people that wouldn’t mind a out of the blue real life scene from a movie ,you always hear people screaming telling the characters “don’t open that door b***h,aha ,that b***h was stupid,i would of just left,out the mother f**king window.”well in this situation nobody new what to do at all.

Defend Muslims? I’m not sure what you mean. This was going around the internet, and I noted that it was unverified. The screen capture looked to be authentic, but it was not possible to say for sure. I noted my skepticism and also noted that I was simply reporting what was going around the internet.
When the identity of the shooter was finally released, it was obvious that the reports that he was Iranian was either an error by News 9 or a hoax. I contacted News 9 and they told me that this was fabricated and the screen shot was a fake.
I published that information as soon as I got it.
If that constitutes defending Muslims in your mind, I’m afraid I disagree.
I feel that what is going around the internet is something of interest to people. We all know there is a lot of false info going around and I never report something as fact without proof. Which is why I noted that this was unconfirmed.
Further, I confirmed that the Iranian story was a hoax and not a misstatement by News9.
That is hardly defending Muslims.

@ Garland; Perhaps you’d favor having MORE nutjobs in he theater, returning fire? Face it, if the rest of the audience had tried to return fire, then the casualties would have been higher. There are far too many people out there who aren’t qualified.

WOW! A so called “NUTJOB” in Florida fired on and SAVED several people from harm when two gun carrying guys entered and intended to rob and/or hurt people inside a business. This “NUTJOB” did what any decent person would do,defend himself and protect others. Guess what,the only people hurt where the criminals! It has gotten so bad today,many feel we have NO RIGHT at all to defend ourselves from from harm. I have to remember now days the criminal has more rights then the victims do thanks to the liberals.
