In a rare victory for non-intervention, the House of Representatives voted in effect to defund the Libya war! (thanks to Freedom’s Phoenix and antiwar.com)
Introduced by a Democrat from California (a certain blogger might have to lay down for a few minutes!), Brad Sherman, who argued:
Why is this amendment necessary? Because so many administrations have embraced the idea of an imperial Presidency, the idea that a President can send our forces into battle for unlimited duration, for any purpose, unlimited in scope. This is not what the Constitution nor the law provides.
This amendment is very simple: No funds in the defense appropriation can be used in violation of the War Powers Act. It may give legal cover and standing for the suit filed by ten Members of Congress, including Ron Paul, to stop the Libyan war. No war can be started without Congressional authority and this one needs to stop. No more feel-good interventions that we cannot afford!
