VICTORY! PA COUNTY ELECTS AFTER PROTESTS TO ALLOW ICLEI MEMBERSHIP TO LAPSE!

The Montgomery County Commission after protests from citizens elected to allow their ICLEI membership to lapse, according to this report!

County Policy Chief Steve Nelson had said at a previous meeting that the county had joined ICLEI in order to access its proprietary software, and Wednesday he said the membership had expired.

The protests were led by Maggie Roddin and Ruth Miller, who had attended several county commission meetings:

“I am here today to be the voice of residents of Montgomery County, who I am certain are unaware that their county government has signed a treaty with the United Nations to reach global sustainability goals,” she [Miller] said.

Roddin, who has a radio show on WNJC 1360 AM in Philadelphia, The Unsolicited Opinion, accused the commission of, perhaps unwittingly, being pawns in the UN environmental agenda.  The officials were unpresuaded:

“The only thing I laugh at is absurd allegations that the county has a treaty with the United Nations or a treaty with a foreign government,” he [Commissioner Joseph Hoeffel] said.

However, my readers know that ICLEI is indeed a confederation of international cities, towns and counties with foreign policy goals.  It is unconstitutional for any municipality to join or remain in ICLEI – see Article I, Section 10:  “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation,…No State shall,…enter into an Agreement or Compact with Another State, or with a foreign power…”.  When Commissioner Hoeffel suggested there was no treaty involved in ICLEI, Miller responded by showing him the ICLEI charter.

Let me cite couple of things from that charter:

The Association shall maintain its formal institutional relationships with its founder patrons, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union of Local Authorities (IULA), the latter from 1 January 2004 merged into the newly established World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments. (Section 1:2 ICLEI Charter)

One more charter item:

The Association shall seek an agreement with United Cities and Local Governments whereby ICLEI serves as the World Organization’s environmental and sustainable development agent.

Agent of what?  UCLG sounds like an Orwell nightmare!  You can’t make this stuff up!

United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) represents and defends the interests of local governments on the world stage, regardless of the size of the communities they serve. Headquartered in Barcelona, the organisation’s stated mission is:

To be the united voice and world advocate of democratic local self-government, promoting its values, objectives and interests, through cooperation between local governments, and within the wider international community.

One final item:

Section 1:6 – Representation Mandate

The Association shall serve as an international representative for its members and campaign participants by providing advocacy before national and international governments, agencies and organizations and multilateral bodies to increase their understanding and support for local sustainable development and environmental protection activities. Through such advocacy, the Association will work to achieve an effective division of responsibilities and resources for sustainable development and environmental protection between the various spheres of government. (My emphasis)

I hope Commissioner Hoeffel will read this article; I imagine he will be shocked as I was as I researched this issue.

However, victory can be won by determined patriots, liberty and sovereignty activists!  Keep up the protests; educate the people; be respectful to all in authority; involve yourself in the political process and encourage one another.
