Victory is sweet. It feels good. Maybe no more treaties during a lame duck session. I do not care, Senator Kerry, if it were done 19 prior times! There is no compelling emergency that justifies it.
What did we learn from this?
The Democratic Party, at least at the national level, is the Globalist Party. When you are contemplating voting for a nice national Dem, think again. Be sure he or she is not a globalist. Every Democratic senator voted yes on this treaty. Not one exception. Even Senator Joe Manchin (WV) voted yes.
Senator Lieberman voted yes. Why?
Senator Nelson of Nebraska, a fairly conservative former state governor, voted yes. Why not vote your conscience?
Senator Landrieu who calls herself a moderate – voted yes.
Yes, I am afraid our own Senator Webb, who once worked for President Reagan, voted yes, too. Just like his vote for Obamacare.
Of course, we have issues in the GOP, too:
The two senators from Maine voted yes. So what else is news. So did the Senator from Massachusetts that is going out of office and will probably run again. So did the outgoing senator from Indiana and the soon to be outgoing senator from Arizona. (Yes, Senator Lindsey Graham did vote right this time!) We need solid people to run for office and can win. (I hope the Wyoming constituents will have a little chat with otherwise wonderful Senator Barrasso!)
It will be a tough battle if the Dems ever take over the Senate with enough numbers to pass treaties. But thank the Lord that as not happened yet.
Here’s an example of arrogance in action – the junior Senator from Delaware:
“I am frankly upset,” said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., “that they have succeeded in scaring the parents who home school their children all over this country.” He said he said his office had received dozens of calls from homeschooling parents urging him to vote against the convention.
I am frankly upset that a senator has so little regard for his constituents. Didn’t the Senator read the stuff? No, his website says Senator Coons went to the Department of Justice and asked them! The Fast and Furious DOJ assured the senator that homeschooling was not threatened by the CPRD! Read here!
Senator Coons took those concerns seriously, and he checked with Department of Justice directly. What he heard – what he confirmed, with absolute certainty – should put the minds of these parents at ease.
Ratification of this treaty will not do anything to change existing American law, rules or enforcement on homeschooling. The right of families who wish to homeschool their children to do so will be protected, no matter what.
Nor does the treaty erode one iota of American sovereignty.
It does not hand over any authority to any international body. It does not burden us with any new obligations or expenses. It does not require us to do anything but comply with our own, already existing law – a law that has been in place for 22 years. Any rights that Americans have now, they will continue to have if this treaty is ratified. Period.
This treaty will change US law, obligate us to answer to foreigners, charge us millions to comply and will affect every family where a child has a IEP or a 504! Senator Coons is an attorney and was employed by a leading company in its legal department. He should have read the fine analysis of Mike Farris and voted to protect the homeschoolers in his state.
Maybe a homeschooler or one homeschooled in youth will run against Senator Coons in 2016. There is bound to be a state representative or state senator in the First State who can mount a credible run. When it comes to be outraged on people being scared, I am sure Senator Coons will be eager to scare seniors to back the status quo on Social Security, in spite of the fact it will go broke if nothing is done. Here’s proof from his campaign site:
Unless you think the retirement age for Social Security should be raised, want to further de-regulate Wall Street, are against a woman’s right to choose, think public schools should teach Creationism, and think homosexuality is an “identity disorder,” she is definitely not you.
But I want to salute the patriots who phoned, emailed and went to see their senator’s office to encourage a NO vote. Even in Delaware!
My hero is Senator Mike Lee of Utah! Here’s his statement:
The opposition was led by tea party favorite Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who argued that the treaty by its very nature threatened U.S. sovereignty. Specifically he expressed concerns that the treaty could lead to the state, rather than parents, determining what was in the best interest of disabled children in such areas as home schooling, and that language in the treaty guaranteeing the disabled equal rights to reproductive health care could lead to abortions. Parents, Lee said, will “raise their children with the constant looming threat of state interference.”
Let’s enjoy this moment. Have that sweet tea! But be sure, the Globalists will be back. They got the Law of the Sea (LOST), and the Small Arms Treaty, and the UN Child treaty and CEDAW, among others, in their quiver of bad law they want the USA to be bound by. And there is the Trans-Pacific Partnership, where multinational corporations would be beyond the scope of US law! Don’t take my word on it: Take this liberal think tank’s word instead! Still victory is sweet!
