Virginia Right! Endorses Hanover House and Senate Candidates for 2011

Hanover County, Virginia is a reliable Republican stronghold. As a resident, it is fitting that the first endorsements of the 2011 General Election concentrate on the 5 members who represent parts of the county.

We are blessed to have some of the top members of the Virginia General Assembly representing our fair county.

Redistricting made some noteworthy changes to the political landscape of the county. Hanover now has three State Senators, up from a single Senator in prior years.

On the House side, the boundaries changes, but two districts remain, unchanged in number from the last redistricting.

All 5 of the candidates managed to escape without a challenge. So while these endorsements will not change the results of the election or sway any votes, consider them a vote of confidence for those endorsed, for whatever that is worth.

Senate Endorsements:

4th Senate District

Virginia Right! proudly endorses State Senator Ryan McDougle for the 4th Virginia Senate District. Senator McDougle has become one of the top Senators of either party and is at the forefront of the fight to take back the Senate. The new district contains slightly more Democrats than the previous 4th, but is still decidedly Republican. The old lines saw 70.8% of the voters cast a ballot for Governor McDonnell, and the new lines take that number down to 69.9%.

Ryan McDougle is recognized by his colleagues and the voters as a top lawmaker, a well deserved accolade. Hanover residents expect big things from Senator McDougle and he delivers.

Speaking of delivering, Ryan’s wife recently delivered their first child, so congratulations are in order (as well as this endorsement).

12th Senate District

Virginia Right! is proud to endorse Senator Walter Stosch for Virginia Senate. Stosch is a veteran Senator and one of Hanover’s two new Senators. He is also unopposed and has a reputation as a solid Republican. Hanover is fortunate to Walter Stosch fighting for them in the Senate and sits on a number of important committees. His committee assignments complement those of Senator McDougle and broadens Hanover’s voice on all of the committees with little overlap. Hanover now has a voice on a lot more committees than was possible with a single Senator.

While Senator Stosch picked up less than 10,000 voters with redistricting, the Republican balance in the 12th district ticked up by a few tenths of a percent.

House of Delegates:

55th House District

Virginia Right! is proud to endorse Delegate John Cox for a second term. Cox has represented the citizens of Hanover for the past two years and has had a significant and positive impact on legislation. His expertise, particularly in the transportation area has been a boon to Virginia. As a successful businessman, John Cox brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that is just what Virginia needs at this particular time.

The 55th District has lost some of it’s Republican leaning, thanks to redistricting. The old lines saw 74.7% vote for McDonnell, and the new lines trim that down to 68.4%, still solidly Republican.

97th House District

Virginia Right! proudly endorses Delegate Chris Peace for the Virginia House of Delegates. Peace is also running unopposed. Chris Peace won a special election in January, 2006 and has served admirably since. His work ethic and moral compass are second to none, and his desire to help and make life better for all he represents is one of his strongest attributes.

Delegate Peace represents my area and I have turned to him several times for various issues that have arisen over the years. I can personally attest to his willingness and desire to¬† help any that he possibly can. Often, over and above the “call of duty”. His newsletters are full of information that is not normally found in a political communication.

Hanover is fortunate to have Delegate Peace represent us!

Redistricting has seen the 97th become more compact and more Republican. The old 97th voted for Governor McDonnell 70.9%, and the new district voted 77.7 % for the Governor.

Virginia Right! plans additional endorsements over the next couple of weeks on both local and state offices in and outside of Hanover County.
