Virginia Right! Endorses Karen Kwiatkowski in VA-6 Congressional Primary

At the bottom of a rather lengthy post on the horrors and dangers that Bob Goodlatte is attempting to thrust on America, I noted that Virginia Right! has decided to endorse Karen Kwiatkowski in her Primary bid to retire the 20 year incumbent Republican Congressman.

Few things are as unforgivable as an intentional erosion of our Constitutional rights. This is expected by Progressives as they see the Constitution as an obstacle to their plans, but when it is a Republican, it is especially heinous.

And once a representative crosses that line, there is no going back.

Even Andy Schmookler, the Democrat who expects to run for the seat opposes SOPA.

Goodlatte has accepted a lot of money from the Entertainment Industry as the above linked post shows. That is simply not a good reason to infringe on the rights of Americans.

Time to go, Bob!

SOPA crosses the line.

"Even Andy Schmookler, the Democrat who expects to run for the seat opposes SOPA." As the Andy Schmookler in question, I'd like to ask: Why the "even"? As I understand this bill, it has two central failings.
First, it uses a sledge hammer to perform a kind of surgery where a scalpel would be more effective. Yes, intellectual property rights should be protected, but this does it in a way that unnecessarily would chill valuable free speech. As a lifelong first amendment hawk, I strongly oppose anything that constrains free speech one inch more than a truly compelling reason requires (like the famous shouting of "Fire!" in a crowded theater). So why "even"? The second failing, I gather from a good article I read in a Cato Institute article, is that it weighs in on the side of old entertainment industry interests to try to hinder legitimate competitors to those interests. Free markets have their shortcomings, for which the right laws are good correctives, but I cannot support government action to reduce the competition that gives free markets their real virtues. So why "even"?

There was no intent to disparage you with the word "even". It was simply intended to accent the fact that you and I agree on something. Looking at your website, you appear to be pretty much a Progressive who has a basic belief that more government is always the best move. And this bill is more government intrusion and an erosion of Constitutional freedom. As I noted in a previous post linked in this post, even Moveon agrees.

It was intended to highlight the fact that no matter which side of the political spectrum one lines up on, Bob Goodlatte is out of touch with reality.

We may have found the one point where our mostly opposite views intersect. And when a topic has this much universal disapproval, it MUST be a bad thing!

Even Right Wing Bloggers like Tom White agree with Andy Schmookler!
