While the Supreme Court upheld the ObamaTax mandate which will increase taxes mostly on those making less than $100,000, one other portion of the ruling disallows the Federal Government from defunding states that refuse to expand Medicaid.
The way the ObamaTax law was written, if a state refuses to expand Medicaid to take in far more people, Obama will simply take away all the money they kick in for the program.
There is not a single state that can afford this massive expansion of government provided health insurance.
But the Supreme Court removed the penalty. Now, if a state refuses to go along with the expansion, there is now money taken away and they will not have to find hundreds of millions of dollars for the unfunded mandate portion if the Medicaid Expansion.
Texas has already led the way.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Monday his state won’t expand Medicaid or set up an insurance exchange, joining a growing number of Republican governors who are rejecting two key parts of President Obama’s health care law.
“I will not be party to socializing health care and bankrupting my state in direct contradiction to our Constitution and our founding principles of limited government,” Mr. Perry said.
He joins more than half-dozen GOP governors who have already said they won’t increase the size of their Medicaid programs to cover Americans up to 133 percent of the poverty level, after the Supreme Court upheld most of the law last month but said states could opt out of the Medicaid expansion.
“I stand proudly with the growing chorus of governors who reject the Obamacare power grab,” Mr. Perry said. “Neither a ‘state’ exchange nor the expansion of Medicaid under this program would result in better ‘patient protection’ or in more ‘affordable care.’ They would only make Texas a mere appendage of the federal government when it comes to health care.”
Virginians should urge Governor McDonnell to follow suit and quash this massive expansion of the Federal Government by just saying “no!” to this scam. And this should be a bipartisan effort in Virginia. We simply can’t afford to raise taxes in a recession, nor cut any more from the state budget which former Governor Tim Kaine left in such a depleted state.
Governor McDonnell has cleaned up Kaine’s mess. Don’t let Kaine and Obama cause another budget hole for Virginians.
