As an attorney I can tell you that I did not like going to court to argue a point without some legal authority behind it.  No matter where the source was (Even California for example!  I once went to court and had a nice opinion from the California Court of Appeals.  I recall fondly that a much more senior member of the bar quipped, “Not going to get too far with that case.”  He was right.  I won but it was not because of the California case, it was I had better facts and witnesses than the other side did!) there is nothing going to court with one or three or five or seven or more guys and/or gals in judicial robes agreeing with you!

That brings me to this wonderful article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by Jack Kelly and the title says it all:

Satan Supports Hamas

I have just been handed a huge precedent in support of an opinion:  Some, maybe much to nearly all, of the anti-Israel fury has to come from the Jewish people’s biggest enemy:  Satan [formerly Lucifer – a fallen angel who persuaded one third of the angels to rebel against Yahweh – his pride got in the way – and that’s in the Old Testament – see Ezekiel 28:12-18 and Jesus referred to it in Luke 10:18 (“…And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.“)(KJV)]

The Enemy of God and His people has a huge prophetic interest in seeing the Jewish people wiped out (There are Biblical prophecies that declare the eternal nature of the original people of God – one is at Ezekiel 37:26: (“…Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them…” [KJV]) It is hard to have an everlasting covenant with a people group if they no longer exist!

Here’s a compelling passage in Scripture – Zechariah 12:1-3 (KJV)(bolded for emphasis by me):

The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord,

Which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth,

And formeth the spirit of man within him.

2  Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about,

When they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

3  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people:

All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces,

Though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

It can seem like all the people of the earth are gathered together against Israel today!  Now I also must concede I am not trained in theology of the interpretation of the Scripture.  But it seems to me that Kelly raises a solid good point:

The utter moral depravity of support for Hamas inclines me to believe hatred of the Jews is Satanic. God didn’t choose this “stiff-necked people” through which to tell His story because He admired their qualities, the Bible makes clear. But because He chose them, Jews acquired the eternal enmity of God’s foremost adversary, and of those in Satan’s thrall.

That’s like going to court with a judicial opinion from a jurisdiction favorable to my judge and in total agreement with my argument!  Those who oppose Israel ought to examine their motives and their hearts carefully!  Don ‘t be a useful idiot for Satan.  Thank you Jack Kelly for being frank and honest about a leading (of course not the only one – there may be people opposing Israel who are clearly not led by the devil) source of anti-Israel opposition.

Scripture is clear about which side of this we need to be on. Calling for wholesale slaughter of an entire Nation or people is evil, one would have to be mad to ignore or deny it.

That said it has occurred to me for some time what drives much of this, the U.S. Aid given to both sides, and much of it stolen.

Yassar Arafat was worth tens of millions of dollars at his death, large commercial real estate investments scattered around the world, often times hidden in his wife’s name, and the money came from the foreign aid we and others have pumped into the region for decades.

Stop all U.S. Aid, all of it for all sides , and see how fast a Peace deal is brokered. They milk us like fat stupid cows.

  2. Gene Lefty says:

Well first off let me say this, I don’t mind helping Israel when they need our help. Right now, financially, it looks like their economy is doing better than ours? Looks like they ought to be sending us some money? Although I am not sure, I believe Israel may be stirring the pot just as much as anybody else over there right now.

Sandy, neither am I a Bible scholar, and I do not have the knowledge of interpretation or education that you possess. But isn’t a Covenent like a contract? Did Israel keep its end of the contract or did they break the contract, or Covenent?

That brings up another question. If Israel had kept their part of the Covenent that God made with them, then why do they need our help? Would they have ever needed anybody’s help if they had not fallen out of favor with God by disobedience? I feel certain, as always, God will take them back when they discover what a mistake they have made and repent?

It would seem if you read the entire chapter of Ezekiel 37, there are some questions as to whether Israel is living in obedience to God? Therefore is the Covenent still valid?

Same problem we have over here. Once again the word of God is the only truth. Everything else has become a lie. Sin has made man little more than a counterfeit of the man that God created.

    • Gene Lefty has made me think about issues and that is good. Yes, there is a covenant between God and His people, and yes a covenant is like a contract and yes Israel did break the covenant unilaterally many times. (His people today, what are called Christians but I prefer followers of Christ, have the same problem.) Hence under law we have no right to enforce the contract/covenant but God in His mercy, reaches out to us and continues to perform the covenant. The old covenant of the Old Testament is fulfilled by Jesus’ perfect sacrifice in the New and thus there is a better covenant – one based on the Spirit not the Law. (The moral law is there to tell us what God will and will not tolerate but we do not follow it to attain righteousness but to please God from a heart that now desires to do that.)

Yes, Gene is right that Israel is not Biblical Israel. But many evangelicals do believe that Israel is critical to Biblical prophecy and we respect the special relationship God had and has with his original people – the Jews. Hence many of us support Israel. But also Israel is the only nation that still has anything approaching a democratic form of government in the Middle East. So we like that. Israel is also our ally, although she certainly watches out for herself too. (Hence the nuclear bombs and the still unexplained attack on the USS Liberty in 1967. I think something was going on – or at least Israel felt something was going on on that ship against their best interest important enough that it had to be neutralized. They could apologize later and pay costs!)

Yes Gene is right again (I hope he is not hopelessly puffed up about this!) about how sin marred the image of God in us and we have that bent toward sin, a depravity wound, that only Jesus can heal. If anyone wants to know the saving power of Jesus in YOUR life, dear reader, can look at the link in the last paragraph of this post for more info.

Ezekiel 37 is a fascinating chapter of the Bible. Two distinct lessons: One about how dry bones can turn into life and how the Children of Israel will be regathered into their homeland again.

Thanks for coming by and your comments, Gene!
