A hotel chain in Spain apparently has nothing to read in their rooms:
An avid world traveller and firm believer in UN and human rights principles, [Kike] Sarasola [CEO of Room Mate Hotels] said the idea to place UDHR booklet in his hotel rooms came about during a trip to New York, United States.
“When I was in the hotel I realized that I had nothing to read. At that moment I began to think about which publication would be interesting enough for the whole world,” Sarasola explained. “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is something we all know of, but have rarely held in our hands or taken the time to read.”
But never fear, the UN is on the way to help!
The Spanish hotel chain, Room Mate Hotels, will place copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in all its hotel rooms worldwide, starting 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Maybe the readers will see this clause in the UDHR:
These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations. (UDHR Article 29, Paragraph 3)
No thanks, I’ll take my Constitution instead! If you followed this provision, the UN could say this blog is beyond the protection of the UDHR and thus I could be imprisoned for opposing the UN. But the Constitution is still the supreme law of the land in the USA (next to the Bible most dear!) and I praise God for that!
By the way: The UN claims that the UDHR is the most translated document in the world!
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has been awarded the Guinness World Record for having collected, translated and disseminated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into more than 300 languages and dialects: from Abkhaz to Zulu. The Universal Declaration is thus the document most translated – indeed, the most “universal” – in the world.
I beg to differ: The Bible or some portion of is translated into more languages:
How many languages have Scripture?
Over 2,800. Of these, 518 have a complete Bible, another 1,275 have the New Testament. 1,005 others have at least one book of the Bible.
(Thanks to Wycliffe Bible Translators!)
I hope the Gideons can send Bibles to the Room Mate hotel chain! “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty!” II Corinthians 3:17 (KJV) Now there’s liberty we need in this world today – the liberty that only Christ Jesus can bring. Here’s how to find that liberty in Jesus.
