There is a haunting and moving (it made me cry) country song out by Thomas Rhett (apparently the son of this country singer and songwriter, Thomas Rhett Akins, Sr.) called “Beer With Jesus”. It is a great song about how the singer would love to have a beer with Jesus and ask him questions such as:
Are my prayers answered? What happens after death? When are You coming again? How are my parents doing?
(I do not mean to sound arrogant and I can be corrected by Scripture but my Biblical answers to the first three of those questions are: Yes, God answers all prayers of His followers [sometimes the answer might be no but that is an answer] and might answer other prayers in His will. [See James 5:16-18, John 15:16-18, 16:23-24] There is a judgment after death and people either go to heaven or hell [See Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 20:15- 21:1-4] Only the Father knows the time of the Lord’s coming again BUT He WILL come again! [See Mark 13:32, II Peter 3:3-11] I am afraid I cannot answer that one specifically! If your parents know or knew Jesus as Savior and Lord and repent(ed)of all known sin and seek His forgiveness and walk(ed) with Jesus as the Light daily, than they are saved and provided they endure(d) until the end, they will share in the heavenly blessings of the Lord!)
This song certainly sounds like a powerful witness for Christ in the singer’s or songwriter’s life (The lyrics express a strong gratitude for the grace of God: “How did you turn the other cheek, to save a sorry soul like me.” I agree: God’s amazing grace in Christ Jesus is awesome. It takes sinners like me and makes us holy instruments for His use to win a lost world for Jesus!) and the music video at the Thomas Rhett website sounds like it could be a personal witness but the website does not clearly confess Jesus as Lord in Rhett’s life.
Would Jesus have a beer with me, Sandy? I am not sure if He would drink the beer but He’d surely sit with you as you had yours and hear you out. Jesus went to a Pharisee’s house at that religious leader’s request and sit with him. (Luke 7:36-50 [Here's verse 36: "And one of the Pharisees desired him (Jesus) that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down at meat. (KJV)] The result was a notorious sinner in the community came and anointed Jesus with an expensive alabaster jar of ointment and Jesus declared her forgiven! Jesus said to the person who came to Him (v. 50) “Thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace.” (KJV)
You can have the peace that the lady sought at Jesus’ feet at the home of Simon the Pharisee. Here’s the place to find out more! I beg you if you are not sure or want to learn more about Jesus to go there today – right now! He did turn the other cheek at the Cross to save every sinner in the world today. Don’t go into eternity without at least finding out more! If you scoff, prove Sandy wrong? Many have tried to prove Jesus/Christianity was wrong and guess what: They got saved. Josh McDowell is a good example
The second point is for us as followers of Christ: Go where it might be a bit uncomfortable to reach others for Christ Jesus. There are a few places where I would not go (such as a strip club) for a lost soul but we must reach out to the lost people around us. For you could bring Jesus to another. Have a “beer” (perhaps not literally a beer, my choice is sweet tea!) with a lost person you know today and see how they are doing. Show them you have, through Jesus, the answers to life’s problems and crises.
