China Subsidized Solyndra Too!

In the early days of the Obama Administration, Solyndra was touted as the prime example of the Administration’s ability to create “Green Energy” and jobs. Solyndra received $535 Million in Taxpayer money and, despite warnings from both Administration insiders as well as others, Obama fast tracked the Solyndra money and the company did as most expected. Failed miserably.

And as is normal for the Obama Administration, they immediately begin blaming others. And as of yesterday, this wasn’t even the Administration’s project per se.

Trying to lay blame on the Republicans in Congress for this mess is absolutely laughable.

But the debacle demonstrates how utterly incompetent Barack Obama is when it comes to business and the economy. The man has never worked an honest day in his life and has absolutely no idea what he is doing in the business world. And this is a case in point.

Rather than look at facts and figures about the viability and potential of an investment, Obama allowed his ideology to cloud his judgement.

How could he have not looked at the price of Solar Panels manufactured not only in the United States, but on the world market? Any good venture capitalist would do their due diligence.

But of course Obama was not using his money. He was using ours! You can bet that if his investment manager had invested in such a risky and ill advised venture, he would be fired by the Obamas.

But isn’t the $535 Million taxpayer investment by the United States government a subsidy? It totally strains credulity¬† when Obama pumps so much money into an American Company to then whine that China undercut the price by pumping money into Chinese Solar Panels.

Most would say the subsidy “unfairness” excuse is totally bogus. Both countries propped up the products.

So, what is the real reason Solyndra failed?

Labor costs. Plain and simple.

America can no longer compete in the world market due to the high cost the Obama Administration has added to business. And it’s not just his Union fetish. It is Health Care costs, energy costs, and corporate taxes.

And then there is the fact that the only people who will buy Solar Panels, where the cost per kilowatt far exceeds that of conventional methods of power production – like oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear – are other ideologues like Obama. It is simply not a smart business decision to invest in a more costly and less efficient method to produce power.

So taxpayers must again subsidize the product because there is no market for solar panels unless the government gives tax credits to create one or shuts down competing energy supplies.

Obama has done both.

Maybe some day clean energy from the sun will be practical. But that day is not here yet and no amount of force can make that happen without damaging the economy and making America even less competitive on the world market.

And one of the most ironic things about Obama’s claim Solyndra failed because the Chinese subsidize their solar panel production is that, while taxpayers are ultimately on the hook for money borrowed, the $535 Million Solyndra squandered was actually borrowed from China.

So in a sense, China subsidized both Chinese and American solar panel production. And Americans still lost the market battle.
