UPDATE: The Virginia Black Conservative Forum has asked that McAuliffe repudiate this bogus attack:
Members of the Virginia Black Conservative Forum are calling on Terry McAuliffe to repudiate the release of a video in which, according to the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA), gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli “[equates] the nation’s bloody reckoning over slavery with today’s anti-abortion movement. .
Reported in the Virginian-Pilot, the video was filmed at an event sponsored by the Family Foundation in Williamsburg last year.
“The attempts to paint the Attorney General as an extremist will not work. I’ve known Ken for nearly ten years now, worked for him and really got to know him and I know what’s in his heart. You will be hard pressed to find a more inclusive man, willing to take the message of conservative values to every community and every neighborhood, regardless of race, creed or color,” said VBC member Carl Tate. Not only is Terry McAuliffe clueless about the job he hopes to
buy win, Governor of Virginia (or some other state, doesn’t really matter to him). In a recent interview with the Virginian Pilot, McAuliffe was unable to name a single cabinet position. Sad but true.
And to get people’s minds off of his gaff, the Carpetbagger McAuliffe has taken to selectively editing year old speeches made by Cuccinelli in order to paint the Attorney General and Republican nominee (in waiting) as an extremist.
McAuliffe sent out the following email a few minutes ago:
Just stop already.
According to an AP article, Ken Cuccinelli compared abortion rights to slavery at a meeting of the Family Foundation last summer, saying:
“Our experience as a country has demonstrated that on one issue after another. Let’s start at the beginning: slavery. Today: abortion. History has shown us what the right decision was.”
You can’t make this stuff up: first he says that opponents of birth control coverage should go to jail in protest of the Affordable Care Act — now this.
Our next Governor should be focused on important issues like bringing more jobs to Virginia, fixing our transportation system, and improving our education system — but it’s clear Cuccinelli only wants to focus on his extreme social agenda.
I know that if we band together, we can make sure Cuccinelli’s agenda never gets to see the light of day.
Terry McAuliffe for Governor
But here is what they left out and don’t want you to see:
“History has shown us what the right position was, and those were issues that were attacked by people of faith aggressively to change the course of this country. We need to fight for the respect for life, not just for life but for respect for life. One leads to the other.”
So, according to Cuccinelli, it is the lack of respect for life that leads humans to allow horrible things like abortion and slavery. And although Cuccinelli didn’t say so, I can freely add genocide, murder – including mass murder – and things like Concentration camps and even segregation.
Ken Cuccinelli has nothing to apologize for. And anyone like Terry McAuliffe who twists words and leaves out context in order to make political points is less than deserving of being dog catcher, let alone Governor.
Now I think McAuliffe ought to apologize for lies and distortions.
Tell the Truth Terry.
This is Virginia. Not Washington DC.
