Eric Cantor is NOT Invincible

Our political establishments derive their seeming invincibility from their positions of power in Washington DC and from the wealth derived by virtue of holding those positions. They have a lot of institutional support within the business community, within the lobbying empire, and within the bureaucracy itself. This makes the mission of any freedom movement intrinsically difficult. To win, we must overcome a political class and an organizational establishment with more financial resources than we, as citizens, could ever possess.

However, each individual in power, attached to an elected office is always vulnerable. The only thing that protects their position of power is our disinterest and inaction. We can vote them out of office, if we commit ourselves to the hard work and the expenditure of our time. So the question really is, just how important is it to replace our current crop of elected officials?

At present, I would argue that it is not only important, but necessary; and when something is necessary we are duty bound to see it done. Whatever it takes.

Dr. Dave Brat is challenging Majority Leader Eric Cantor. This is turning out to be one of the most impressive show downs between the citizens of a single district and one of the most entrenched and powerful elected officials in Washington DC. To the 7th District, I say, you can do this! But it cannot just be you showing up to the polls to vote for Dr. Brat. You’ve got to bring your spouse, your children and your parents, your friends, your poker buddies, your co-workers, your acquaintances, and your neighbors (even the one that borrowed your power drill and still hasn’t returned it).

To defeat an establishment, we must use the only two tools more powerful than money and power: Time and Energy. If you believe that there is any other way to win, I think you might not quite understand the full gravity of the situation. Yes, our candidates need money in order to run an effective campaign; but they also need people to make signs, people to write letters to the editor, people to go door to door, people to show up at committees, and people to put mailers in envelopes.

We can retire Eric Cantor and send a message to the Republican Establishment if we are willing to spend our time and our energy doing so. Cantor is NOT invincible. The Chamber of Commerce can give Eric Cantor tens of millions of dollars, but THEY CANNOT CAST A SINGLE VOTE! Only you can do that. The power is yours. I suggest you seize it.
