MK’s: Obama is the new Arafat

Today, Barack Obama called on Israel to move back to the pre-1967 borders. To those who have been through the Liberal Indoctrination Facilities known as Public Schools, you most likely don’t know what that is all about.

First and foremost, many are erroneously taught that Israel attacked the peaceful Arabs and started the war. I am sure this is what Obama believes, or wants to believe.

But for those of us who watched this unfold, the facts can’t be changed by revisionist history.

It is a fact that Israel launched a preemptive strike, but Arab forces nearly half a million strong with thousands of tanks and aircraft amassed on the border and promised to annihilate Israel for good. Israel tried to avoid a conflict, but the Arab world had banded together and had blood in their eyes.

Understandably, Israel’s self preservation instincts took over and they kicked ass. It became known as the Six Day War and the Arabs learned a lesson about Israel: She has teeth. Jews have faced adversity before. The lessons learned during WWII were still fresh in the memories of many who came to Israel. They did not forget. If you want to know more, I suggest looking here. The events of that time in 1967 are reported there and are in close agreement with my own memory.

Obama’s demand that Israel give up the land won in 1967 is both alarming and shameful. Obama is fond of reminding people that he won the election in 2008 and elections have consequences. Well, here is a newsflash for the latest member of the Palestinian Fan Club: Wars have consequences. Israel took the land for mostly strategic reasons. The combined Arab forces had proven that the areas were ideal for an attack on Israel, and Israel made sure that the same scenario would not be repeated.

To give back areas that lend a strategic advantages to a people who have proven they will use that advantage to their benefit is asking far too much of Israel. Land for peace, pushed by PLO leader Arafat, has never worked in this region. Obama apparently missed history class that day. Perhaps he voted present.

So what do Knesset members think about Obama’s demands?

The Jerusalem Post reports:

“Barack Hussein Obama adopted the staged plan for Israel’s destruction of Yasser Arafat, and he is trying to force it on our prime minister,” said Likud MK Danny Danon. “All that was new in the speech was that he called for Israel to return to 1967 borders without solving the crisis. Netanyahu has only one option: To tell Obama forget about it.”

National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari also slammed Obama’s speech, calling it “a landmine with pretty wrapping.”

Environment Minister Gilad Erdan, who as a minister close to Netanyahu must be more diplomatic, complained on Channel 2 that according to Obama’s approach, the Palestinians would receive their demands on borders before negotiations begin.

“Once they have everything from the start, they have no reason to make any concessions,”Erdan said.

President Obama has clearly poisoned the Peace Talks as far as Israel is concerned by siding with the Palestinians. But perhaps that is what this president hoped to do by tossing out this non-started.

An interesting bit in the Wall Street Journal reported:

Jewish donors and fund-raisers are warning the Obama re-election campaign that the president is at risk of losing financial support because of concerns about his handling of Israel.

The complaints began early in President Barack Obama’s term, centered on a perception that Mr. Obama has been too tough on Israel.

Some Jewish donors say Mr. Obama has pushed Israeli leaders too hard to halt construction of housing settlements in disputed territory, a longstanding element of U.S. policy. Some also worry that Mr. Obama is putting more pressure on the Israelis than the Palestinians to enter peace negotiations, and say they are disappointed Mr. Obama has not visited Israel yet.

One top Democratic fund-raiser, Miami developer Michael Adler, said he urged Obama campaign manager Jim Messina to be “extremely proactive” in countering the perception in the Jewish community that Mr. Obama is too critical of Israel.

Today’s speech should clearly convince Jewish donors that Obama is interested in peace in the Middle East only at the expense of Israel. As usual, Obama’s “people” get an exemption.
