Reader Submitted: My take on Cantor’s new Gig

Cantor’s New Gig:

Read about the gig here.

“After a selfish lifetime of pretend public service, it has become necessary to move my hustle from the more powerful public arena to the (even) more lucrative private sector. Having failed to inspire the idiot voters of Virginia’s 7th District to blindly vote to allow me continued access to the coffers of future generations of American citizens, I have no choice but to move my self-serving gambit to an arena where I no longer have to pretend that it’s all about the money. I’ll miss out on that power and those cameras, but I won’t skip a financial beat. That, I’ve recently realized, is all that really matters. The rest was always make-believe, all along.”

This is how I regard my former Representative, and I am curious to see what Mr. Brat is made of, especially after a few terms in office. After all, they’re all just asses in a seat to me, period. From Washington to the newest newbie in Congress, they can be regarded as nothing more. Once they believe that the seat is theirs to protect, and not one which they occupy for thousands of fellow citizens, then they need to go. The percentage of legislators who are able to overcome the “my seat, my power, those damn voters are becoming a necessary evil” dynamic is depressingly slim.

You are not alone, but I think Dr. Brat will remain a breath of fresh air. Hopefully he runs for 3 terms in the House, one in the Senate, and then returns to Randolph Macon, where our youth will have been deprived of a great professor for a long 12 years.
