I have tried for nearly a day to find something nice to say about John Murtha on the occasion of his death. I have been unsuccessful. I wish I could find something of value in his decades of public life that overshadowed his demoralizing accusations against our military. But there is nothing.
Although the liberal media prefers to gloss over the hateful lies Murtha spewed about the brave Marines fighting in Iraq, this Veteran remembers. Murtha and his comments about Haditha are an inseparable and embarrassing blemish on America.
In an effort to discredit President Bush, Murtha joined the growing number of whiners from the left pretending to be against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their silence now is proof positive that their objection was never to the wars, or due to a concern of the US military. Bashing Bush was the goal, and if throwing Marines under the bus would help, Murtha was ready and willing to do so.
They say there is no such thing as a former Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Murtha may well be the exception to that rule.
John Murtha claimed that Marine 1st Lt. Andrew Grayson was a murderer.
“there was no firefight, there was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”
We all know now that Lt. Grayson and all others were totally exonerated.
Murtha died without apologizing. He also never apologized about the Abscam bribery scandal where he was named an “unindicted co-conspirator” and turned stool pigeon to save his own hide.
He is also known as the “king of pork” for funneling massive amounts of wasted tax money to his state for projects of little benefit to most.
Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha’s one distinction that is worth remembering is his absolute corruption.
John Murtha. Dead at 77.
While this may be a harsh post, the actions by this Congressman were unforgivable. I do offer my condolences to his family.
