During the House hearings designed to allow Congressmen to each have a photo-op on record of them taking potshots at top BP Executives for the Gulf drilling accident, Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX) seems to have missed the memo. Instead of blaming BP for the entire mess, spewing threats and issuing severe tongue lashings, (none of which will do a thing to stop the leak), Barton apologized to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the horrible treatment his firm was receiving from the US Government and especially for the shakedown BP received from the Chicago mob occupying the White House.
What Joe Barton said needed to be said. It is the absolute truth. We have courts in this country to deal with these things. Barton’s mistake in his selection of venue. And his words could have been chosen a little better.
Like Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” outburst, the substance was accurate. But the forum was wrong.
House Republican leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor were correct in demanding an apology, as they did with Joe Wilson.
What we are left with is the fact that Barack Obama has been threatening BP and interfering with progress for two months sending BP into ‘cover your ass’ mode.
As the ship sinks, Barack Obama is promising the survivors money. His focus should be on mitigating the damage, which continues. The oval office shakedowns are ‘feel good’ moments designed to help Obama’s sagging image.
Could you imagine sending in lawyers to oversee the 9/11 rescue attempts, promising that any fireman, policeman, or EMT that screws up will pay?
Right now, like it or not, BP is the only EMT operation we have in the Gulf. And the only ones working to stop the leak. The Obama Administration has failed to engage.
There will come a time to assess the damage, lay the blame and make things right. That time comes after the leak is capped.
Right now, the US Government needs a leader to cut red tape, to amass resources and stop the leak. Sadly, Obama does not possess these skills.
