Republicans to Barton: ‘Apologize for Telling the Truth!’

During the House hearings designed to allow Congressmen to each have a photo-op on record of them taking potshots at top BP Executives for the Gulf drilling accident, Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX) seems to have missed the memo. Instead of blaming BP for the entire mess, spewing threats and issuing severe tongue lashings, (none of which will do a thing to stop the leak), Barton apologized to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the horrible treatment his firm was receiving from the US Government and especially for the shakedown BP received from the Chicago mob occupying the White House.

What Joe Barton said needed to be said. It is the absolute truth. We have courts in this country to deal with these things. Barton’s mistake in his selection of venue. And his words could have been chosen a little better.

Like Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” outburst, the substance was accurate. But the forum was wrong.

House Republican leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor were correct in demanding an apology, as they did with Joe Wilson.

What we are left with is the fact that Barack Obama has been threatening BP and interfering with progress for two months sending BP into ‘cover your ass’ mode.

As the ship sinks, Barack Obama is promising the survivors money. His focus should be on mitigating the damage, which continues. The oval office shakedowns are ‘feel good’ moments designed to help Obama’s sagging image.

Could you imagine sending in lawyers to oversee the 9/11 rescue attempts, promising that any fireman, policeman, or EMT that screws up will pay?

Right now, like it or not, BP is the only EMT operation we have in the Gulf. And the only ones working to stop the leak. The Obama Administration has failed to engage.

There will come a time to assess the damage, lay the blame and make things right. That time comes after the leak is capped.

Right now, the US Government needs a leader to cut red tape, to amass resources and stop the leak. Sadly, Obama does not possess these skills.

When the Exxon Valdez spilled it’s guts, Exxon was fined 4 billion plus dollars. Over the period of 20 years Exxon’s lawyers through appeals managed to get the judgment reduced by half.
The people that are being affected by this can’t wait 20 years.
BP’s oil rig caused the damage. BP’s executives have agreed to set aside 20 billion.
Sure we could wait for years for blame to be assigned and a judgement to be reached.
Meanwhile what do we say to all those who depend on the gulf for their livelihood?
Who will compensate them now? The taxpayer?
    I say, take the money.
If later some other party like Russians or the Iranians are found to be at fault you can always send them the bill.

First, Norris, the $20 billion will dribble in over at least a decade. And remember that there is no requirement. BP had about $7 Billion on the books at the close of last quarter. They have assets, sure. But the plan is not going to see anything liquidated.

We are looking at BP doing a billion here and a billion there. And now that the CEO is no longer in charge, the deal may be in jeopardy.

Unfortunately, what this “deal” does is show businesses that the Obama Administration is willing to create it’s own system of dictatorship. Mob style politics. That the rules you engage into a business venture with can change at the whim of the political fortunes of Obama.

The deal to halt dividends means that your 401K and mine are now going to be paying for the spill. It means that BP stock will drop like a rock. Who wants stock if they don’t pay?

BP’s credit rating was dropped 6 steps.

BP is in the oil exploration and drilling business. Not the well capping business. Especially at 5,000 feet. The Obama Administration sits by and watches as a company with no expertise in stopping such a leak fails again and again. And the best Obama can do is send in lawyers.

Obama has stopped equipment that would have mitigated some of the damage, the Coast Guard has stopped skimmers for “safety reasons” and the oil continues to spew.

Obama has directly made things worse. BP, by rights, could hand over $75 million and tell Obama to go screw himself. And the Administration knows this, yet still does the Chicago shakedown.

Sure BP has some responsibility for this. But the US is a country of laws. And we have courts.

Attacking a company with absolutely no proof this was any more than an accident AFTER GIVING THEM A SAFETY AWARD is shameful. The Obama government has failed to inspect the rigs, and gave BP an environmental waiver for crying out loud.

Why the favorable treatment you may ask? Well, BP signed on to Global Warming and Cap and Trade, cutting a deal for themselves like some Big Pharma companies did with Obamacare.

So Obama turned his back on what they were doing.

This is not a president, he is a mob boss.

I am puzzled by the whole thing of apologizing and then apoligizing for apologizing. I am left wondering what other venue could Mr. Barton have used that would have let the American public know what he thought about the whole shameful charade. The dems weren’t there to solve anything at all. Obama has done his utmost not to solve anything, just to make it as near a crisis as possible. Their typical process is to try to destroy anyone that doesn’t agree with them such as the BP CEO. In essence he told the whole works to just stuff it. I don’t blame him. I haven’t listened to Barton’s apology. If it had been me, I’d simply admit that perhaps I was wrong in using this particular hearing. That calls for an apology to the hearing leader, period. I would also have stated that my error in venue didn’t change the substance of what I said at all. This whole episode reminds me of Grandma’s admonition; “Never get in a peeing match with a skunk”.

The problem is, Obama is severely damaging BP, who he is depending on to pay for the cleanup. If they fail, Americans are stuck with the costs. Which is what will eventually happen.
