Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Should Be Spent Enough Already (SEA)

Democrats and Republicans both got the message: We are Taxed Enough Already. The problem is, America is sending an incomplete message. Ronald Reagan understood the implications of out of control spending and the high taxes required to support it.

Reagan said “No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth!

Yet Reagan and Congress borrowed more money than they took in.

Don’t get me wrong. Ronald Reagan was, without a doubt, the greatest president of my lifetime. But government, under Reagan, still grew. And he allowed budget deficits.

These deficits were added to the National Debt. This debt has increased under every president in the past 3 decades except Bill Clinton’s second term when revenue from the Y2K “big buy” came in faster than Clinton and the Republican congress could spend it. That will never happen again, our government will make sure of it.

Somewhere along the line, Big Government switched tactics. Deficit spending and debt became the new Federal Reserve Currency and replaced tax and spend. The new norm is spend and borrow.

The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party’s message speaks to only part of the problem and we need to take this a step further. This country is awash in a sea of red ink. Perhaps a better acronym would be S.E.A. – for Spent Enough Already.

Taxpayer anger at our government is spot on. The anger has been somewhat deflected by the federal government by borrowing rather than taxing. This is a cowardly practice that defers the taxation to future legislators and, even more unforgivable, to future generations.

And who is to blame?

Quite simply, all of us.

We demand that our taxes not be raised, yet we gage the effectiveness of our elected officials by how much they spend, or bring home, to us.

We have reached the point of no longer tolerating higher taxes, yet have not reached the point being satisfied with less government. We demand a 24 hour buffet of government programs for free. Our government has been obliged to say yes, or lose their jobs.

While the federal government has steadily expanded the government buffet, the current administration has decided to build more and larger buffets on a scale that will dwarf all previous borrowing and spending. While the current anger seems to be directed at the Obama administration (and rightly so), theirs is simply culmination of decades of all you can eat government for free taken to it’s inevitable conclusion at warp speed.

Already, those that hold the notes on the debt we owe are shaping our foreign and domestic policy. This will only get worse. We have sold our country because we lack self control and self discipline. As a result, we no longer control our own destiny. Japan and China do.

This is not an indictment of the Obama Administration, although they are in the process of making an intolerable debt impossible. It is an indictment of culture of Americans. Government can stop taxing us, but as long as we demand the spending, what options do they have, other than to borrow more money and give us what we demand?

Until we are ready to demand fewer services from our government, and reward those willing to make the necessary cuts with our support, we are only getting what we demand: The imminent and total destruction of America.

I agree. The electorate of the United States wants lower taxes, and mores spending for almost everything. It’s quite frankly impossible. I have to blame our leaders for cutting the taxes in the first place without lowering the spending. I do not think that the current Tax rate is oppressive by any measure. But the problem is that the increasing debt WILL cause it to be necessary to hike taxes. We may not be TEA, but we DEFINITELY are SEA.

At this point, I feel like people don’t understand that “Tax Cut” and “Spending” are the same thing at this point. Because we are not cutting spending, giving a taxs cut is essentially the same thing as spending more. the $15 Billion Jobs bill that just went through the Senate was just a giant tax-cut for Businesses.

Actually, the “tax cut” for business is worse than that. It gives a “credit” from Social Security, so it is raiding Social Security instead of borrowing money.

And if they think a few dollar’s saved on social security will somehow get me to hire more people, they are nuts! I need more business to do that. We are off at least 25%. I didn’t replace the last employee that left, and I am not able to hire any more even if they totally eliminated my portion of all taxes.

  2. I love it! S.E.A. So true! And you are right. It’s almost like we had an unspoken “don’t ask, don’t tell” agreement with our politicians. We did not ask were the money was coming from and they did not tell us how they taxed us without us realizing it.

I have written my local and state legislature and have told them I support cuts in spending even if it means a cut in services.
