Three Ways To Heal The Republican Party Without Voting For Gillespie

In Tom White’s excellent article, “Why I am Voting for Ed Gillespie: Top 10 Reasons“, there are a number of arguments made with which I could take issue. However, now is not a time for picking at the rationals and strategy of those Republicans fighting to restore our Republic. Tom’s reasons speak for themselves and we Libertarians are going to disagree with many of them for obvious reasons that do not require public quibbling. However……

Tom’s #1 reason why he is going to vote for Ed Gillespie is as follows:

The number one reason I am voting for Ed Gillespie is that Dave Brat is running on the Republican Creed – a Creed that I have always fully supported. It is Dave’s desire to unite the Republican Party. There were a lot of hurt feelings and people were and still are holding on to their sour grapes. Make wine, get drunk, and get over it as I mentioned above.

Now, I absolutely admire Dave Brat, and am not one of those who believe that his every non-antagonistic move is a sure sign that he’s sold out to the Republican Establishment. For those who fear that we’ve lost Dave Brat months before we even send him into the jaws of The Capital, I would caution you to show the same cynicism toward your own political reflexes that you show toward the politicians seeking your vote. Dave Brat has not sold out. Whatever Dr. Brat’s reasons for supporting Ed Gillespie, I assure you that they are less political than another politician I admire – Rand Paul.

After reading Tom’s article, I sat down and thought for a while about Dave Brat and Rand Paul’s support for Ed Gillespie. I reread countless emails I’ve received from Rand Paul’s people asking for donations to help fire Harry Reid. I puzzled and pondered and finally came to one obvious conclusion.

Rand Paul and Dave Brat are Republicans. They are going to do what they think is best for the Republican Party. I spend so much time fighting side by side with Republicans that sometimes I get confused and think that I am one, or worse, think they are actually Libertarians in Republican Clothing. Neither is the case. But let me make a case.

Three reasons how the Republican Party can heal and unite without voting for Ed Gillespie, Mitch McConnell, Thad Cochran, or Pat Roberts.

  1. Let’s look at two Senators that aren’t so keen on the GOP retaking the Senate. Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz aren’t rallying for establishment Republicans? Why? Well, they are actually fighting the good fight… the fight that you and I, that Tom White and Dave Brat are fighting. They are already in the Senate, maligned and despised by their own party’s leadership. If we send Ed Gillespie to the United States Senate, are we really healing the Republican Party, or are we sending the establishment more Lieutenants to stifle the efforts of Mike Lee and Ted Cruz?

And Let’s be honest! Ed Gillespie will also oppose Rand Paul. Why is Rand Paul supporting Gillespie? Why is Rand Paul supporting Mitch McConnell? Because Rand Paul wants to be the next President of the United States and he believes that he can unite Libertarians, Conservatives, Constitutionalists, and Establishment Corporatists.

If you support Republican warriors like Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Justin Amash, Rand Paul, and Dave Brat, then you can’t send Ed Gillespie to the United States Senate. You’ll be helping to cut the feet out from underneath those soldiers in the Senate fighting for things that you believe in!

If we want to unite the Republican Party, let’s unite the Republican Party behind Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Justin Amash, Rand Paul, and Dave Brat; and not behind the blindingly baffling flags of John McCain, Mitch McConnell, and Ed Gillespie. If you elect Ed Gillespie, you will lose the Constitutionalists and Libertarians, and you won’t survive 2016 without us.

  1. Let’s look at the Republican Creed that Dave Brat and Tom White believe in… let’s look at the reason why conservative, Constitutionalist, Libertarians like myself are drawn to brilliant leaders like Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Justin Amash, and Dave Brat.

That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economic justice,

That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume their responsibilities as citizens in a free society, That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government, That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing Constitutional limitations, That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense, That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers is essential to the moral fiber of the Nation. (source)

So, does Ed Gillespie stand for these principles? Of course not. Why did Dave Brat run against Eric Cantor? Because Eric Cantor wasn’t really a Republican. He was a big government statist, a corporatist. Tom White and Dave Brat, Rand Paul and the RNC are looking at the “Big Picture”. Ladies and Gentlemen, the big picture isn’t even the size of a cell phone icon. It’s a half an inch by a half an inch.

If the big picture doesn’t include reducing the debt, repealing ObamaCare, opposing amnesty, destroying ISIS, reinstalling States’ Rights and individual liberty, then the big picture doesn’t matter. Ladies and Gentlemen, after the election in November, the Obama Administration is going to go rogue. We need warriors to fight for us. Dave Brat and Rand Paul want you to vote for Ed Gillespie so that the GOP will win the Senate, give power to Mitch McConnell, and heal the party. If you do this, you’ll heal the party, and prevent ANY POSSIBLE CHANCE OF STOPPING HARRY REID AND MITCH McCONNELL from destroying this Republic! Ed Gillespie isn’t a solution. He’s the flu to your cancer. He’s the Boston Red Sox to your New York Yankees. He’s your John McCain to your Barack Obama. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t.

  1. Do you want to heal the Republican Party? Then you need to look to Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Justin Amash, and Dave Brat. You need to look to Rand Paul. Have politics ensnared them? Of course. Sarah Palin will forever be tied to the pathetic failed candidacy of John McCain. Rand Paul is a fervent supporter of Mitch McConnell. We can support candidates even when they make mistakes. Supporting Ed Gillespie is a gigantic mistake – but if I lived in Dave Brat’s District, not only would I vote for him, I’d work the polls for him, as I did during his primary fight.

Dr. Brat – If I had to choose a Republican Ship to sail upon, you’d be that ship. Do I think your support for Ed Gillespie means you’ve sold out? Of course I DO NOT. Do I think you are wrong? Yes.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I love Dave Brat and Tom White, and I especially love the grassroots Republican Movement in Hanover County. You are heroes to me. You are giants and giant-slayers. Don’t do this, though. All you Republicans who enjoy my articles, despite the fact that I’m a Libertarian, don’t vote for Gillespie. If you can’t vote for Robert Sarvis, as I will do on November 7th, then WISH. Write In Shak Hill. I’ve met the man and he is the candidate that should be replacing Mark Warner in November.

This suggestion that fighting to unite a republican party is puzzling at best. Unite the party to do just what specifically ? Win an election ? Republicans have won a lot of elections the last 40 years at every level. We have just what to show for it ?

As Mike Giere pointed out some 2 months ago just what do the republicans plan to do with their majority ? I hear over and over how bad the democrats are, as if that is somehow news, but when pressed for details on just what republicans have accomplished the last 30-40 years , either at the State or National level, blank stares all around. They literally pimp the Patriot movement when the election cycle comes around for volunteers and then laugh behind closed doors at what dumb asses they were to fall for it again. No Thanks.

Amazing the constant harping about Obama ,going so far in one letter to the Mechanicsville Local this past week as to somehow excuse former Gov. Bob McDonnell for his sins because Obama’s sins are worse. What type of rational is this ? What is accomplished by these contrasts, other than half baked rationalizations for voting republican. President Obama will go down as one of the worst Presidents in history, but how does that somehow morph into an explanation of the republican parties broken promises and failures of the last 40 years ?

John Taylor is one of the brightest & honest political strategists in Virginia, bar none. Last year he quipped at one of his Tuesday Morning group meetings

“republicans won’t change until they know we won’t vote for them”.

Just what part of that do some folks not understand ? Just how many times does one have to be lied to until they begin to question the credibility of the lying party ? How many more election cycles do the apologists want to wait until we act decisively in sending the republican party a clear and unambiguous message that they will no longer get conservatives support ?

Marginal differences in practical application of the touted republican creed won’t get us going in the right direction. I am simply dumb struck at the folks who have such short memories of the endless litany of broken promises to cut government spending, and the needed reform of education, tort, the tax code, the strangling regulations that lead CEO’s expanding to decide not to do it here in the U.S. Just what do those of you who cry out for party unity have as a benchmark or measuring stick , besides of course the nonsensical ” our guy isn’t as bad as their guy ” ?

Then of course we have the vaunted and always at the ready platitude of

” holding their feet to the fire”

I have seen it no fewer than a dozen times , on TEA Party websites, e-mails from various candidates and campaigns–BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN ? Why is it no one can answer that ? A lot of hot air apparently because no one seems to be capable of defining just what that blow hard statement actually means in practical terms. All I have seen is a lot of complaining and griping until the next election cycle rolls around and BAM…. the lambs line up for slaughter just as they are told.

This is a war, and for those of you unfamiliar with the lessons of history the losing side always loses because they fought with half hearts. The victor laid it all out there, risking it all and achieved victory. Victory isn’t defined by replacing Mark Warner with his twin brother, victory isn’t defined by a Senator or Congressman having a damn R next to their name.

Victory is defined by clear achievement of a GOAL, not winded platitudes and half hearted threats. Victory in this case isn’t who wins or loses a U.S. Senate seat, it is achieved by sending a clear message to the republican party , namely we will not vote for you and your nominated candidates unless and until you do what you promise to do and stop lying to conservatives, at least the ones smart enough to understand the deception the party has practiced for some 4 decades.

  2. Gene Lefty says:

No Bob, Unite the party to take us back to Bushville 43′. The Republicans do not know what they would do if they had it all. But I can tell you this, they would destroy what is left of the middle-class, and make 2008 look like a very good year. $4 Busholine would be cheap compared to what it would be if they get their way.

A hint of just what the Republicans would do can be found by looking at the spending they did when in charge of Virginia Government, and the budget increases. And the tax increase, HB 2313. And to top it off, a governor is headed to jail. Just a hint!

    Stay tuned!
