VA-12 Senate Race: The ‘Stolle Follies’

: the lack of good sense or judgment

: a foolish act or idea : foolish behavior

: a very unusual or fancy building that was built in a garden for decoration or amusement in the past

So what’s in a name?

If the name is Stolle and you live in Virginia Beach, it means quite a bit.

Chris Stolle is a Delegate to the Virginia House of Delegates.

Chris’ brother Ken Stolle is a former State Senator and is currently the sheriff of Virginia Beach. And as a Senator, Ken was Chairman of the Courts of Justice Committee, so quite a few judges currently sit on the bench in the Commonwealth and have a Stolle to thank.

Brother Colin Stolle is the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Virginia Beach.

No doubt the name Stolle will open doors for you in Tidewater.

And now, the boy’s sister, Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant wants to expand the Stolle stronghold on Virginia to the Richmond area. Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant’s husband contacted me the other day and asked me to not use the name Stolle-Dunnavant as his wife does not hyphenate her name. When the initial announcements hit the media, the name was hyphenated, so I assumed that was her preference.  But it seems it is no longer her desire to broadcast the name Stolle.

Ok. I will no longer hyphenate her name, but I will carry the maiden name to make sure everyone knows who this person is and the history and power her family name has carried.

One of the darkest days in Virginia Politics came about one year ago. Eric Cantor and his Young Guns traveled around the state in an attempt to steal the primary elections and put in their chosen candidates for various offices and positions around the state. Using a procedural move not used in decades and universally despised called “slating”, the Cantorites went to Virginia Beach where they disenfranchised over a thousand potential delegates and gave their votes to 32 RINO Republicans. At least two and perhaps three of the 32 were the Stolle brothers.

The Pilot used the headline:

Amid boos, GOP ices Tea Party with Beach slate vote

And they reported it thus:

A gathering of 1,000 Republicans turned raucous Monday evening after party leaders used a procedural move not seen in 30 years to select those who will choose the head of the party’s 2nd Congressional District.

Over shouts and boos, a slate of 32 mainstream party members supporting Sen. Frank Wagner was chosen to take the place of Virginia Beach’s 552 votes at the party’s district convention next month.

The procedure, called a slate, virtually guarantees Wagner will win the chairmanship and prevents supporters of Tea Party favorite Curtis Colgate from getting a vote at the convention.

Del. Chris Stolle led Monday’s meeting and quickly ushered the vote for the slate, which included his brother, Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle, and Wagner.

And yesterday Rob Kenyon used the headline below when he wrote at Virginia Virtucon:

A year later… “Get over it.” Not a CHANCE.

So it appears that many Republican members of the General Assembly that supported the Cantor/Young Guns-led slating effort at county conventions last year will be unopposed for nomination this year. More’s the pity. These are the very people who need to be held responsible… and when I say ‘held responsible’, I mean ‘defeated and sent home’. It’s been roughly a year since that (thankfully largely unsuccessful) effort went down, and somehow Frank Wagner and Scott Taylor, the most odious of this bunch, have escaped primary challenges. It seems the entire Hampton Roads/TowneBank mafia/delegation was involved. The only good news is that Sen. Jeff McWaters (R-8th) is retiring, but his buddy, and fellow slater, Del. Bill DeSteph, is all set up with McWaters’ support for the nomination.

Another opportunity is in the 12th Senate District, which is also an open seat. The establishment-backed candidate is former Delegate Bill Janis, who supported slating. Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant is also running… yes, she’s another member of the slatin’ Stolle dynasty from Hampton Roads, and as such, is to be opposed. From what I’ve heard from locals, she’s not particularly impressive. Thankfully, there is also Vince Haley, a tea party backed conservative who has the personal support of Newt Gingrich, which has helped him raise quite a few dollars. He’s also brought aboard Zach Werrell, the young campaign manager of Dave Brat’s primary upset of slater-in-chief Eric Cantor last year. Just as with Mr. Hudgins, it’s vital to support Mr. Haley in this primary.

(Note: To my knowledge Bill Janis was not involved in slating in Henrico. I spoke to Janis today to clarify and he says he has never voted for a motion for slating or for slating itself and has never supported the tactic. – Tom)

I HIGHLY recommend that you click on this link to read the entire post at VV by Kenyon. He put his finger on the spot with precision.

And it is also important to note that Delegate Scott Taylor, “the most odious of the bunch” has been asked to be the keynote speaker at the Hanover Republican Committee’s Reagan Day Dinner. Taylor’s involvement in the slating that went down in Virginia Beach will serve to keep away all true Conservatives from the Dinner Fundraiser. I have written many times how the Hanover Republican Committee under Nancy Russell has been working to divide the party and create an environment hostile to Conservatives. This is absolute proof and any Republicans that calls themselves Conservative and also knows what that means should keep their money and presence away from glorifying a “slater”.

The Stolle’s fingerprints are all over the slating process. They were given the “stolen” votes of hundreds of good Conservative Republicans. There is no forgiveness for such treachery. This single event did more to split the party than anything else I have seen in allmy years as a Republican. And they knew exactly what this would do going in.

And this was a huge factor in Cantor losing the primary. This was nothing short of utter contempt for fellow Republicans. It was a match to gasoline.

So after this fiasco, which was thankfully overturned on appeal, another Stolle wants to expand the family power profile as a State Senator. Perhaps it is somewhat unfair to lay the slating blame on Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant, but my father always said “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”.

And despite her husband’s best efforts to convince me she was not the second coming of Walter Stosch (odious comment appropriate here, too), it only takes a quick look at VPAP to see where they have sent their money over the years. And there are names like Walter Stosch, Jimmie Massie, John O’Bannon. These folks were all involved in the slating and coincidentally, they all voted for the McDonnell Tax Hike, the largest tax increase in Virginia history. (Update: Delegate Jimmie Massie DID NOT vote for the tax hike, but DID send an email supporting the slating.)

So Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant gives every indication by her family, her donations and the effort to distance herself from the Stolle name. Funny, I would bet the Stolle name was an advantage getting into Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk a few years back.

When the donations to her campaign are posted on VPAP, we will see who is behind her. And who is on her payroll.

But my RINO Radar is lit up like a Christmas Tree with Siobhan Stolle Dunnavant.

And the last thing we need in Virginia is another Stolle running things.

And people can stop lobbying me now. There is no way in hell I would ever support another branch of the “slating Stolle’s” for any office.

No way. No how.

Interesting, how the Doctor has “scrubbed” her Stolle name from ALL campaign material, but NOT her personal Facebook page. She did, in fact, initially embrace the Stolle name until the high dollar political consultants took control of her campaign. What or who are they hiding from?

Let me get this straight…….if you play ball with the establishment, you are in like Flint. Stand up to them over adherence to conservative principles and you are a alien… I have this correct ?

Well then would someone explain to me why Dave Brat is headlining a fund raiser for Chris Peace ? Brat owns the base, his supporters love him and will work their behinds off the next cycle.

So why would he do this ? Please tell me Dave hasn’t drunk the UNITY = Victory Kool-Aid.

Good question Bob. Maybe Dave thinks the knife won’t be so sharp when he eventually gets stabbed in the back.

The establishment is actively working against all our grassroots candidates, incumbents and volunteers. It starts in the local unit level and rises all the way up to the top.

Hope he got something in writing from Chris. But then, we had it (Rule #2) in writing from Ray Allen and Mike Thomas at the 7th District convention. Lot of good that did us.
