Virginia’s Future Requires Hard Truths

(Reader Submitted)

Before the expansive days of President George W. Bush, Virginia politics was a catastrophe of political infighting over budgets, special interest contracts, education, roads, unions, and development. The explosion of the federal government changed everything, for the nation and for Virginia politics. Access to the wealth and influence pouring into Washington D.C. is now the primary, paramount concern of Virginia establishment politics. I believe this is the primary reason why Virginia’s Tea Party’s are some of the most vibrant and influential in America.

My favorite quote from Hollywood’s Thin Red Line is, “The closer you are to Caesar, the greater the fear”. This has never been more true in America, than it has been in Virginia, where our governors become powerful rubber stamps for a lawless Obama Administration, and our Republican Representatives serve powerful interests from around the nation and the world, but with offices located here, in Northern Virginia.

Southwestern Virginia remains in abysmal shape, while money seeps from the nations’ Capital, into Arlington, to Woodbridge, Fredericksburg, and into the pockets and powers-that-be in Richmond. Now, one of Washington D.C.’s most prolific power-brokers is Virginia’s Governor. Virginia is no longer concerned with Virginia. Virginia is obsessed with Washington D.C., our bread and butter, our dirty little secret to low unemployment and high standards of living. We are parasites, sucking the wealth of our nation, and lying to ourselves about “local issues”.

Hence, the Virginia Tea Parties and their fervor. As Americans and Virginians who believe in the founding documents of this great nation; as Constitutionalists, Conservatives, and Libertarians, we have watched our historically great State of Virginia become a beggar of thieves, and it’s more than we can bare! It is time to face some hard truths about the reality facing us. We cannot continue to protest our nations’ capital, while pandering for its stolen wares. We cannot continue to elect politicians loyal to the Chamber of Commerce, which no longer lives on its own life force, but on a bloodline fed to it from every corner of American Government. We can no longer settle for slight hypocrisies and disappointments.

Our “Republican” Representatives make up a centralized strength of the Armed Services Committee; and this is an honor. However, they vote with the Speaker of the House and his Corporatist Agenda, they constantly lie to their constituents, and they have done great harm to our nation, and to each of us as Virginians. I’m speaking specifically about Robert Whittman, Scott Rigell, Randy Forbes, Eric Canter, and even the honorable Frank Wolf.

We need a Virginia dedicated to Virginia, not to the wealth of nations, and the wealth of the states. We are Virginians! Not parasites. Every responsible candidate will be attacked with claims that they will end our gravy train. They might; and God Bless Them! We’re selling our liberties for statistics and power, and this is beneath us. Let us face the truth and move forward from there, unapologetically, and with great force and ferocity.
