War and Peace in the Middle East

Tyranny is on the rise in nearly every nation already not consumed by its’ habits. It is frightening and amusing how cold we are to its becoming, desperate to maintain our denial of its’ reality nor subject our fragile minds to the weight of the burdens before us. For years, the paranoid amongst us predicted the rise of an Islamic Caliphate, which would swallow the Middle East and Persia, Northern Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe.  That this paranoia has been validated does not in my mind alleviate these predictions of their unnecessary eventuality; but here we are, face to face with a global epidemic of rage and madness.

Frankly, the rise of a Caliphate in the Middle East, of Putin in Russia, of the shockingly powerful and quiet Chinese Government, and an Iran with increasing influence wherever a dark crevice can be found in this world, could not have come at a worse time. The Leaders of the Free World, Presidents and Prime Ministers, are of the lowest quality and rank. Europe has no power, subject to Russian energy and lacking any will or strength to guard their own societies against the rise of Islamic Fascism and antisemitism amongst their own immigrant populations. Our President is funding Hamas, has lauded and supported the Muslim Brotherhood, has taken pressure off Iran in their quest for a nuclear weapon, bent the knee to Russia, been out thought by the Chinese, and has established America as something of a joke before all other nations.

When I consider the exigency presented by these truly evil and unjust forces, I imagine that a civilization that once embraced the Enlightenment would rise to the challenge and take proactive steps to tackle these clear and present dangers. I imagine that Jews across the world, with a holocaust still present in their memory, would rise up and demand action. I imagine that the Christian World which for a few short years may have lived up to its’ Christian Principles, would demand a strong response to the rise of evil in the world. I imagine an American People, that while educated by an inept and incompetent government for more than twenty years, would still have enough sense left in their genetics to recognize a desperate moment when such a moment presents itself.

But this is all just imagination. None of it is real. This is a world that will wait until it is too late. We will wait until this war is fought in our streets and neighborhoods. We don’t want to have to do what would have to be done to deal with these problems today. This is a world ready to bow to tyrants and there are more tyrants than ever to bow before.

We need to be discussing an answer. We need to prepare ourselves to act. We need to take what is happening on this planet seriously, because Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, John Stewart, and Colbert certainty aren’t interested in a solution. This is all just money to them. If a solution will be found, it will be found amongst the grassroots, demanded of our governments, and acted upon not a second before we put serious men and women in charge of our political and military institutions. I suggest we get to work on doing precisely that.

One Response to “War and Peace in the Middle East”

  1. Bob Shannon says:

The void of leadership is one point Steve makes that is most frightening. It is reminiscent of pre-World War II when Chamberlain’s views were heeded and Churchill’s ignored.

Appeasement of mad men, when in human history has that not ended badly ?
I take some comfort that signs that the citizens of the Gaza are beginning to grow weary of suffering the consequences of a small band of henchmen. It is not lost among some of us that remedies of all problems like this must come from within the citizens themselves suffering at the hands of these maniacs.

That said leadership in the West must stop pretending as Steve say’s that this growing problem is not a real threat in real time. We wait to confront this head on at our own peril. One can almost imagine the press conferences DC’s windbags will be having after this danger arrives and rears it’s ugly head once again on our own shores.

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
