Who, Exactly, is the Tea Party Fighting?

Reader Submitted

Since 2007, the media has been asking, “Who is the Tea Party”? Are we Ron Paul supporters, racists, Christians, Libertarians, bigots, Republicans, God-lovers and gun-clingers (or was it gun-lovers and God-clingers?), terrorists, or anarchists? I think America now understands who the Tea Party is; we’re Libertarians, Independents, and Conservatives bound together by our appreciation for the United States’ Constitution and by our belief in Private Property Rights, in Federalism, and Limited Government. Every “Tea Party” person I have met knows who they are; but not every Tea Party person I’ve met knows who they are fighting.

With unbelievable speed, the media (and many new-comers to the Tea Party) have forgotten which President spawned the Tea Party. It was not President Barack Obama and David Axelrod. It was the policies of President George W. Bush and Karl Rove. At the time, we all knew that the Bush Administration had lost their collective mind. We understood the crisis and the danger, but we didn’t understand how a Republican President could essentially suspend the US Constitution, invade the private sector, and increase federal powers more than any previous administration since Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt.

We’ve learned a lot since 2008.

Who did the Bush Administration protect during the financial meltdown? He protected the interests of two distinct, and on occasion overlapping, interests: Wall Street and The Chamber of Commerce. The fiscal crisis was robust, and soon we had a new President and a new agenda. However, the Obama Administration kept President Bush’s Federal Reserve, kept a lot of the high stakes corporate players, but explained to them that an era of regulation was on the way. Wall Street and the Chamber of Commerce do not shy away from regulation. In fact, they embrace it; because only they can afford it!

So as dawn peaked out from behind the darkness of our financial meltdown, the very varmints that caused it not only didn’t die, but rose into the daylight stronger and more powerful than before. They used all that federal bailout capital to purchase smaller companies that could not afford the exorbitant price of petitioning the Bush Administration for political protection, nor afford the high costs of expensive Obama Administration regulations. Smaller companies… sound, well-run, responsible companies were purchased and scuttled, or absorbed into the politically conscious and relevant Wall Street and Chamber of Commerce membership elites.

These are our Corporatist foes. If you don’t understand Corporatism, then I suggest learning about it the way I learned about it. In future posts I will admit my sins and explain the many ways in which I was duped by frauds in both parties, but I will share with you my secret formula for predicting how (and why) politicians vote the way they vote. Your time is precious, please understand I explain this only as an efficient means to answer the question, “Who exactly is the Tea Party Fighting?”.

If your Representative or Senator is a committee leader, then they report to either Congressman Boehner or Congresswoman Pelosi, Senator Reid or Senator McConnell. They hold their positions at the whim of these four powerful congressional power-brokers. If you are represented by people heading any of Washington’s powerful committees, do not be surprised that your interests are rarely represented.

If your Representative or Senator is politically ambitious, in the traditional sense, then they will vote however the Chairman or Woman in charge of their committees or sub-committees tell them to vote; which means they also vote in line with Boehner, Pelosi, Reid, and McConnell. (Research the votes on the “Clean CR” that just made its way to the Oval Office).

If they actually Represent your State or your District, then you will notice discrepancies between your Party’s Leadership and your Senators or Congressmen’s voting records. Do not be fooled into think that this makes your Senator or Congressmen a “maverick” or a woman of the people. If you are at least lucky enough to establish that the men and women representing you in Congress aren’t beholden to Party Leadership, in either Party, then you are still responsible for discovering to whom they are beholden. This can be done by researching the PACs and Special Interests that give them money. (There are twenty or so excellent resources, OpenSecrets.org is one of several excellent resources).

Then you need to research the constituency to which you belong. Even if you hate what your Senator or Congresswoman does, are they representing your district, or not? There is some honor in little “d” democracy.

You must understand, that your politicians work very hard to serve someone. If it isn’t you, it is surely someone else. A responsible citizenry knows the answer to this question and The Tea Party is the rebirth of a Responsible Citizenry.

Who are we fighting? We are fighting Statists and Corporatists, we are fighting average men and women who just sort of found their way into politics, but enjoy playing the Game of Thrones, and we are fighting our fellow Americans, upon whose consent this corrupt system has been allowed to stand! We know who we are. I’ve explained who we are fighting. I’ve explained how to research whether or not your representatives are a part of the problem. I shall close with this:

America was built on the minds of humble men, who studied and pondered the brilliance of the philosophers and thinkers that came before them. They embraced the Enlightenment (which means that they embraced the rational interpretation of human experience) and they rejected the folly of Idealism. This means that the Tea Party isn’t just fighting the men and women with agendas. We are fighting the ignorance of the citizenry, which makes these men and women of agendas possible. My friends, we are fighting ignorance, which means we must be teachers, researchers, and thinkers.

The Beatles taught us that money can’t buy you love. Well, money can’t buy you Reason either. We must become ambassadors of reason, if we want to save our country, our culture, and ourselves from this frighteningly monstrous Leviathan which seeks to make each of us and our families, stand down and submit to Hegel’s and Marx’s political and historical inevitability! We must teach each other, we must teach our children, we must teach our co-workers, and acquaintances. Please, take this to heart, because above all, we must teach ourselves. I speak from personal experience, our own ignorance is our worst enemy.
