Many of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers took one step forward in the 1940’s to become a part of what is now known as the Greatest Generation. The enemy attacked the American way of life at Pearl Harbor. A tiny, more or less unknown island in the Pacific Ocean. Most were unaware that Hawaii was a US Territory. But when the Japanese bombs fell, our way of life was under attack. The US declared war on Japan, and Germany responded (under the Tripartite Pact) by declaring war on the United States.
We were fighting for our way of life and a loss would mean we would fall under a tyrannical form of government like Imperialism, Socialism, Nazism, Fascism, or worse.
The old feelings that stirred Patrick Henry to declare “Give me liberty, or give me death” arose once again. American men and women gritted their teeth, clinched their fists and with head high joined the fight. Willingly and determined to defeat the evil that attacked us.
This was an attack from outside our boarders, and the enemy was defeated by bombs and bullets.
In January, 2009 our way of life came under attack once again. This time from an even more insidious and seductive enemy from within. Barack Obama charmed his way into the highest office in the land with well prepared speeches, delivered with all the charm and charisma of a Cult leader. A willing Mainstream Media joined the offensive.
One year after Obama was elected, voters in Virginia stepped forward to send a message to the tyrants bent on destroying our way of life with the federal power grab Obama and the Chicago Machine brought to D.C. In a landslide victory, the Democrats were sent a powerful message that we will not accept Socialism in this country. The victory was accomplished by the Moderates joining the Republicans and the Conservatives. And by a strong and steady Republican message that never faltered under fire from the Democrats.
Yet they did not hear.
Hitler declared a common enemy and used that hatred to unite his minions against the Jews and battle the world. Obama has declared war on Conservatives, Republicans, the Wealthy, the Free Market and Capitalism itself. Class warfare on a scale greater than Hitler. Using a willing press, any that dare speak against him are relentlessly attacked.
Creigh Deeds used the Obama tactics in an attempt to destroy Bob McDonnell. To make McDonnell an enemy of the people. Class warfare. The same tactic was used by Steve Shannon against Ken Cuccinelli. The Republicans discovered the best weapon to fight this class warfare tactic. Truth. Truth, and a plan to lead.
And they never wavered.
Republicans need to take note of the weapons needed to defeat the liars and snakes currently occupying the Democratic Party. Not bombs and bullets, but truth and leadership. The rest will be accomplished at the polls.
And the Republicans now know that moving to the left, becoming a “moderate” is not the way to attract moderates. The Moderates are searching for truth and leadership, something the Democrats are no longer capable of delivering. To win the hearts and minds of the voters in the middle, Republicans need to stand their ground. Do not water down the party. Moderates are looking for strength.
And do not underestimate the buyer’s remorse exhibited by those that voted for Obama. There is now a righteous wind blowing in favor of Republicans. The buyer’s remorse is out there. But concentrating on that remorse to the exclusion of truth and leadership will calm the wind. And lose an election.
Bob McDonnell is now walking point in the 2010 midterm election battle. To be successful, he must deliver on his promises and avoid distractions. His message is what the voters want and his ability to deliver is the weapon.
The country is watching.
And just as our fellow Virginians (and New Jerseyans) took that step forward and volunteered to become the next Greatest Generation, so must those in the other 48 states.
The enemy is among us and the battles will end at the polls without a single shot fired in anger.
