LOOKS LIKE the APPELLATE DEFENDER bill (Senate Bill 738) will go to SENATE COURTS COMMITTEE next week!

I have written several times about the restoration of the Appellate Defender’s office in Virginia.  The Indigent Defense Commission had to abolish the office due to budget cuts. SANDY’S DEEP BACKGROUND says the VIRGINIA APPELLATE DEFENDER may be before the legislature this SESSION!

I have a special interest in the VA Appellate Defender’s office:  I was the first Appellate Defender in the Commonwealth from 1996 to 2000.  In 2009, the doors were shuttered due to budget cuts and the ancillary fact the appellate defender was not protected by statute.  I promised I would see about restoring the AD’s [...]

McDonnell Budget Cuts Have Democrats Squealing Like Stuck Pigs

So it appears in the liberal camps Armageddon has arrived. Budget cuts hit schools! Horrors!

It looks to me like Governor McDonnell trimming those areas of the budget that have increased massively under the past 2 Democratic Administrations.
