Sequestration is a result of Congress, Republicans and Democrats, kicking the budget can down the road over and over again. In order to avoid responsibility for trimming a few dollars from the massive Federal Budget, our elected officials appointed a smaller group – a Super Committee – to make the tough decisions. They stacked the [...]

So what is the common denominator with today’s Democrats? Civil rights? Naw. Unless you happen to be black. Gay rights? Not unless you are gay. Abortion rights? Women’s rights? Environmental issues? No. Each of these individualĀ proponentsĀ are lobbyists for their own position and simply tolerate the other Democrats because they have a common hatred. Republicans. Conservatives. [...]

There is no doubt that whoever coined the phrase “Fiscal Cliff” for the converging tax hikes and sequestration cuts is a fan of big government. And while most Republicans and Conservatives are loathe to cut a single dime out of Defense spending, and those on the left will never willingly cut the entitlement spending that [...]

The Super Committee has failed. The Democrats one and only goal here is to make Republicans go for a tax increase. Again. And they plan to use this “compromise” to win in 2012. Again. So what do you do when the answer to the question “Are you better off now than you were four years [...]

We are still in the first inning and the Democrats have burned Boehner for what looks like the third homer of the inning. This bill is a mess. Now the Republicans have adopted the tactics that Nancy Pelosi used to ram ObamaCare through. Late night sessions behind closed doors making horrible deals to try to [...]

Bipartisanship in the true sense is an overlapping position on an issue or issues. If a bill is introduced that is broadly acceptable to most, it is a true bipartisan bill. If a number of aspects of a bill are strongly objected to by one party, like the Health “Reform” Bills in Washington, adding items that are equally objectionable to the other party just to pass the legislation is not bipartisan. It is simply a compromise. One where objectionable provisions by one party are balanced with equally objectionable provisions for the other party. Is there any way this can result in good legislation for the general public?

When President Clinton put in place the don’t ask don’t tell policy years ago, many saw this as a compromise. Openly serving as a “gay” was prohibited, but gone were the policies allowing interrogation of someone suspected of being a homosexual.
But was this a compromise, or simply the solution that was needed, which should become permanent?

Democrats are likely to lose at least 15 seats in the House of Representatives in 2010 and their losses could go as high as 30-40 seats. The Senate looks more promising for Democrats because there are as many Republican as Democratic seats up for election next year but a loss of 3-4 seats is entirely possible. Given the deep partisan divide in both chambers, diminished majorities will make it much more difficult for Democrats to pass any major legislation in the next Congress.
